Though a scalable HIV cure remains elusive, research featured at this year\u2019s Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) brought us some important steps forward. Many of these came via an oral abstract session, an event that is typically reserved for the hottest findings presented at the meeting. This year\u2019s CROI cure session<\/a> offered new insights into the HIV reservoir, how to awaken it, and how to prime the immune system to attack it.<\/p>\n \u201cI think what we are seeing is lots of small baby steps, and I think sometimes that\u2019s as important as the \u2018Great Leap Forward,\u2019\u201d said John Frater, M.B.B.S., Ph.D., professor of infectious diseases at the University of Oxford, during a breakfast learning session.<\/p>\n TheBodyPro spoke with Frater as well as Katharine Bar, M.D., associate professor of medicine at University of Pennsylvania, about some of their key takeaways.
