When it comes to DC, I usually gravitate toward the heroes, but with The Boys, it’s the villains that hook me. Characters like Soldier Boy, The Deep, the original Black Noir, and Homelander rank among my all-time favorites. Recently, though, DC reimagined one of its most iconic and evil villains, and the result completely dazzled me. In fact, this new take has me enjoying the character even more than my usual crew of The Boys’ baddies.

Superboy-Prime has been around since 1985, but his iconic infamy didn’t truly begin until Infinite Crisis, where he caused massive destruction across the DC Universe, killing several heroes and brutalizing dozens more. I could always admit that Superboy-Prime was a legend in his own right. After all, he did kill Kal-L. Still, I never had a Prime fixation the way I do with some of The Boys’ most notorious villains.

Characters like Soldier Boy, The Deep, Black Noir, and Homelander have long been my go-to baddies, with Soldier Boy in particular being the one I’m most obsessed with. However, that recently changed thanks to DC writer Joshua Williamson, who managed to turn Superboy-Prime into one of my favorite characters of all time by giving the flawed character a redemption arc I didn’t even realize I wanted for him.

        Vought International · Classified
Which Member of The Boys Are You?
“With great power comes the absolute certainty that you’ll turn into a right c***.”

          ⚡
Homelander
America’s Hero

          🔨
Butcher
The Boys’ Leader

          ✨
Starlight
The Real Hero

          🎵
Hughie
Just Some Guy

          🌸
Kimiko
The Female

ENTER VOUGHT TOWER →

        12345678

01

It’s Friday night and you’ve got no obligations. In fact, he played a crucial role in aiding Lois Lane and getting critical information to Superman and his allies. Now, Superboy-Prime is also filling in for the Man of Steel, given that Clark disappeared after defeating Darkseid.

                    Related

  <a href="https://screenrant.com/boys-characters-stronger-homelander-preacher-explainer/" title="Homelander Isn't The Boys-verse's Strongest Character. In Fact, He Isn’t Even Close

Homelander is incredibly powerful, and seemingly unbeatable in the world of The Boys. However, he’s not nearly as untouchable as he thinks.

As a result, Superboy-Prime is now the lead character in Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora’s ongoing Superman run. In the series, Superboy-Prime is fully trying to embrace his newfound hero era, while his past as one of DC’s most notorious villains remains at the forefront of the narrative. Rather than being glossed over, it is something Superboy-Prime is still actively trying to overcome.

Because of that, DC hasn’t simply retconned Superboy-Prime as a good guy. The character is not only suffering from his past continuing to haunt him and the consequences of how others treat him because of it, but he is also experiencing hallucinations, or perhaps even glimpses into the future, where he returns to his villainous, murdering ways.

It’s this redemption arc, still tinged with the question of whether Prime will continue following the path of heroism or slip back into villainy, that has skyrocketed him onto my list of all-time favorite characters. In fact, he has even surpassed Soldier Boy, who had previously held the title as my favorite baddie of all time.

While Superboy-Prime has been in hero mode for several issues now, it was Williamson and Mora’s recently released Superman #37 that officially solidified him as the character I’m most excited to follow. Much of that comes from an interaction with Damian Wayne, AKA Robin. Issue #37 sees the two team up, giving me a duo I didn’t know I needed but am now thoroughly obsessed with.

Damian is initially extremely standoffish when it comes to Prime, even when the hero tries to connect with him by asking how he overcame his reputation as the “bad Robin” with a murdering assassin past. Damian initially gives him non-answers, but by the end of the issue, the beginnings of a genuine bond start to form between the two.

I love some Super x Bat content, and one of my biggest DC disappointments was when the publisher aged up Jon Kent, effectively breaking up the Super Sons dynamic. However, it now looks like DC may be establishing a new relationship between Superboy-Prime and Robin, which has only deepened my obsession with Prime’s character development and further solidified him as my favorite evolving baddie.

Superman #37 from DC Comics is now available to read!

      Created By

                                           Joe Shuster, Jerry Siegel

      First Appearance

                                           Action Comics

I’m a huge fan of both DC Comics and The Boys.
