\n\tAfter Billboard named \u201cBlue Valentine\u201d the No. 1 K-pop song of 2025 \u2014 and its parent album the year\u2019s second-best \u2014 the NMIXX<\/a> group chat lit up.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe were like, \u2018Oh my God, this is crazy,\u2019 \u201d recalls Australia-raised Lily. \u201cWe were all so happy.\u201d But the critical adoration, Lily is careful to add, comes second to what their fans \u2014 known as NSWERs \u2014 think. \u201cWe did work hard to get to this place where Blue Valentine could be recognized like that, so it does really feel validating,\u201d the vocalist shares. \u201cBut obviously, the most important thing to NMIXX always will be our NSWERs\u2019 reactions and thoughts on our album.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2026 alone, NMIXX has collaborated with Brazil\u2019s drag icon Pabllo Vittar on \u201cTIC TIC\u201d<\/a> and contributed a single for Anderson .Paak\u2019s forthcoming K-Pops! film soundtrack \u2014 two partnerships that reflect the group\u2019s growing stature in the music industry at large and the range of genres they want to tackle. NMIXX leader Haewon has even been studying Spanish with a purpose that speaks to the group\u2019s aim to reach as many listeners as possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re trying to cater to a really diverse audience,\u201d she says. \u201cOur songs do that, so I wanted to learn a global language [like Spanish] to help connect with more fans across the world.\u201d The recognition Haewon received after speaking to the crowd in Spanish at Chile\u2019s Vi\u00f1a del Mar International Song Festival \u2014 a stage known for an unforgiving audience \u2014 was, Haewon says, proof the effort was worth it. And she\u2019s already looking further ahead: \u201cIf we have the chance, we really, really would like to release more music in Spanish\u201d as a follow-up to 2023\u2019s \u201cSo\u00f1ar\u201d plus their Pabllo Vittar collabs.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor NMIXX, validation has been a long time coming for a group that, since its 2022 debut, has operated by sticking valiantly committed to pushing the K-pop scene into new global markets and experimental sounds. Their current world tour is called Episode 1: Zero Frontier, a title that functions as both a statement of arrival and promise of more to come. With a new EP, Heavy Serenade, out next month, NMIXX appear just as curious to see where and what areas they can potentially conquer next.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s going to be great,\u201d Lily says of the release. \u201c\u200aWe\u2019re definitely not going to go away anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\tFoundation\t<\/p>\n

\n\tAnnounced seven months prior to the act\u2019s debut in February 2022, JYP Entertainment built buzz for NMIXX before it joined the label\u2019s historic roster of girl groups that also includes Wonder Girls (the first K-pop act to enter the Billboard Hot\u00a0100) and TWICE (which has seven top\u00a010s on the Billboard\u00a0200). The group\u2019s name is partly inspired by its self-coined \u201cmixx pop\u201d genre, mashing unexpected sounds and styles like hopping between baile funk and anthemic rock on debut single \u201cO.O\u201d or utilizing boom-bap and tempo changes for the emotionally charged \u201cBlue Valentine.\u201d The latter earned the act its first entry on the Mainstream Top\u00a040 chart in January, spending seven weeks on the list. \u201cNMIXX\u2019s whole message is about the importance of diversity and how, especially in music, everyone deserves a spot at the table,\u201d Lily says. \u201cThe beauty of music allows people from all over the world and all different types of people to come together for this one beautiful thing. \u200aI hope that it\u2019s helped a lot of our NSWERs who feel left out to feel included with our music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\tDiscovery\t<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter a 2023 showcase for fans in cities including New York, Los Angeles and Houston \u2014 plus appearances at iHeartRadio\u2019s Wango Tango, KCON and on a panel at Billboard\u2019s 2024 Latin Music Week, where the group sang in Spanish \u2014 NMIXX is making ample time for the West in 2026. The sextet performed its new Pabllo Vittar collaboration, \u201cTIC TIC,\u201d at S\u00e3o Paulo\u2019s Carnival (\u201cIt was the most amazing energy I\u2019ve ever received onstage,\u201d Kyujin recalls) before Chile\u2019s Vi\u00f1a del Mar International Song Festival welcomed the act as its first Korean performer (\u201cWe were worried because we heard the audience reacts very honestly and won\u2019t hide it if they want us to wrap it up, but the response was amazing,\u201d Sullyoon says). The group\u2019s performances previewed five U.S. dates on NMIXX\u2019s Episode\u00a01: Zero Frontier World Tour, beginning with a sold-out show at the Brooklyn Paramount on March\u00a031. \u201cLast time was a showcase, so I feel like it was a taste of NMIXX,\u201d Lily says. \u201cThis time is the whole meal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKyujin adds, \u201cThe theme of this tour is the first journey that we\u2019re taking with fans \u2014 and we are planning to have many, many more. So, we hope you can stay together with us through all of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\t\tFuture\t<\/p>\n

\n\tThe tour is scheduled through August, but future plans are already in motion. \u201cWe\u2019re traveling the whole world and \u00adencountering music from all different countries, so I think we\u2019re going to continue to be inspired by different types of artists and genres,\u201d Lily says, adding that she and Bae \u00adcherished the Bad Bunny show they saw in Brazil. \u201cThis is our first full concert tour, so that\u2019s why it\u2019s \u2018Episode\u00a01\u2019 \u2014 it implies that there might be more.\u201d More immediately, NMIXX has a spring single dropping for the soundtrack to Anderson .Paak\u2019s 2026 K-Pops! film, plus a forthcoming EP, titled Heavy Serenade, out on May 11. \u200a\u201dIt\u2019s even more diverse,\u201d Haewon teases. \u201cWe\u2019re always experimenting and trying out new, different types of music.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Blue Valentine marked the first time the NMIXX members scored songwriting credits on a project, Heavy Serenade features Lily co-writing intro song \u201cCrescendo\u201d and is the sole songwriter of another new track, \u201cLOUD,\u201d while Bae co-wrote \u201cDifferent Girl.\u201d Lily predicts that the six will continue to collect creative credits as they move forward in their careers. \u201cA lot of our members are really interested in songwriting,\u201d she says. \u201cHopefully, a few of us can keep writing music for NMIXX for the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n
