\n\tDemi Lovato<\/a> is exhausted, but \u2014 looking effortlessly glamorous in a white, furry jacket \u2014 you\u2019d never be able to tell as she lists her current favorite women in pop music. \u201cZara Larsson, of course,\u201d she tells Billboard. \u201cAdela. I\u2019ll always be a huge fan of Lady Gaga. Sabrina [Carpenter]\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOh God, I\u2019m trying to think of who else,\u201d the singer continues. But it\u2019s nearly midnight, and the post-show brain fog is taking over. \u201cSorry, I just played a concert.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWe\u2019re standing backstage at New York\u2019s Madison Square Garden \u2014 which Lovato just headlined for the first time in their career on Friday (April 24) \u2014 as the star snaps photos with about a dozen fans during a quick meet-and-greet. All of them have noticeably clean-smelling breath as they exhale incredulously when she first enters the room, thanks to brand partner TheraBreath, which provided samples of Lovato\u2019s favorite mouthwash<\/a> at the gathering.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI mean, all the pop girlies are great,\u201d adds the equally fresh-breathed performer, who, just a few years ago, probably never would\u2019ve thought that she\u2019d be considered among those same proverbial Main Pop Girls. <\/p>\n

\n\tAfter distinctly switching to rock music on 2022 album Holy Fvck and declaring their pop music dead \u2014 literally, Lovato held a funeral \u2014 the hitmaker switched right back in October 2025, releasing It\u2019s Not That Deep, a Billboard 200<\/a> No. 9 LP of electronic dance-pop bangers. Earlier today, she unveiled the deluxe <\/a>version, It\u2019s Not That Deep (Unless You Want It to Be), featuring eight brand new songs, including \u201cLow Rise Jeans,\u201d which fans went crazy for when Lovato debuted<\/a> the sultry track on the opening night <\/a>of the It\u2019s Not That Deep Tour.<\/p>\n

\n\tLovato tells Billboard that they think the new songs \u201cadd so much\u201d to the already deeply (no pun intended) meaningful It\u2019s Not That Deep era. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey are great additions to the body of work that was already created,\u201d the vocalist continues. \u201cI knew I wanted to get back into the studio after I released the album. We started working on these songs \u2014 I think \u2018Pretty Catatonic\u2019 was the first one that came out of that writing process, and I fell in love with it. It just kind of unfolded from there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAt MSG, Lovato kept the crowd energized with a mix of It\u2019s Not That Deep standouts and older smashes, including Billboard Hot 100<\/a> hits \u201cHeart Attack,\u201d \u201cSorry Not Sorry\u201d and \u201cCool For The Summer.\u201d She also had two surprises in store for the New York City crowd, singing \u201cToo Little Too Late\u201d with special guest JoJo<\/a> before performing live for the first time ever with husband Jutes. (They adorably belted \u201cIris\u201d <\/a>by the Goo Goo Dolls, which was the couple\u2019s first-dance song at their wedding.) <\/p>\n

\n\tAt opening night in Orlando, Florida, Lovato treated the crowd<\/a> to a performance with one of their first major duet partners: Joe Jonas. The duo belted out beloved Camp Rock classic \u201cThis Is Me\u201d ahead of Camp Rock 3, which both are executive producing. It\u2019s one of several throwback programs Disney Channel has been green-lighting from Lovato\u2019s era; Selena Gomez, who attended<\/a> that Orlando show and reunited with her childhood friend backstage, has been involved in an ongoing Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, while Miley Cyrus recently unveiled her Hannah Montana anniversary special.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think the age that we\u2019re at is really loving nostalgia right now,\u201d Lovato tells Billboard. \u201cFor all the people who are in their 30s and have lived through the Disney era with me, Selena, the Jonas Brothers and Miley, they\u2019re craving it, and it\u2019s fun to go back and relive those moments.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tLovato says that the public\u2019s hunger for that Disney Channel golden era has also allowed the stars to reconnect with each other and rekindle old friendships. \u201cOh, definitely,\u201d she adds. \u201cYeah, I think that\u2019s why it\u2019s all coming together again in this day and age.\u201d<\/p>\n
