Instead of focusing completely on love, the multi-time Grammy winner is letting the world know who she is, with one five-letter word to show for it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The singer took to Instagram on Monday (Apr. 27) to reveal that her upcoming fifth studio effort would be titled \u201cBitch.\u201d The title isn\u2019t just a homage to Missy Elliott and her 1999 single \u201cShe\u2019s A Bitch\u201d or Meredith Brooks, whose song \u201cBItch\u201d was the No. 2 song in the country for four weeks in 1997 and went on to go gold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Instead, Lizzo wants the world to know that after her conversation with an individual who <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/thegrio.com\/2026\/01\/09\/how-encountering-a-trump-supporter-inspired-lizzos-new-years-resolution\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:supported Donald Trump;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">supported Donald Trump<\/a>, she\u2019s leaning all the way in on being a \u201cbitch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cReclaiming the word B-tch is power \u2013 it\u2019s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love,\u201d Lizzo said in a statement regarding the album title. \u201cSo many incredible women in music have used the word for positivity like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott. It was only fitting to name my album B-tch because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms and because I am 100% that b-tch!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On Instagram, the \u201cCuz I Love You\u201d singer shared a photo of a Black woman\u2019s hand, with an imposed image of herself, arms aloft, representing the middle finger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In her January Substack post, she ripped off the band-aid and censored herself regarding the President. An ardent supporter of former Vice President Kamala Harris, the musician has been vocal about other celebrities leaning into MAGA waters, calling out Nicki Minaj for supporting Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cA Bitch\u2019s prickly confidence shakes the core of evil,\u201d the artist wrote in her essay. \u201cYou can\u2019t shame a Bitch by calling her bitch, because she knows she is. You cannot hurt Ms. Bitch anymore, she is impervious to words.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She continued, \u201cI want to wear Bitch like a suit of armor adorned with battle scars of my healed trauma,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019ve toiled in the armory banging the dents, I remember the pain. I am more than okay with it. I celebrate it. A Bitch knows exactly when to get angry, and frankly we ain\u2019t angry enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cBitch\u201d replaces \u201cLove In Real Life,\u201d the reportedly shelved album from the singer, which featured singles \u201cStill Bad\u201d and the title track. In a 2025 interview with\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/lizzo-comeback-lawsuit-canceled-zeitgeist-interview.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:New York Magazine;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">New York Magazine<\/a>, she revealed that \u201cStill Bad\u201d felt \u201coverproduced\u201d and that \u201cLove In Real Life\u201d was written in 2022. In its place came a rap-heavy mixtape, \u201cMy Face Hurts From Smiling,\u201d released last June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cBy 2025, I\u2019ve changed, the world has changed so much, and so much has happened,\u201d Lizzo said at the time. \u201cAnd not that I felt disconnected from anything that I put out, because I created it, but it just wasn\u2019t what I was feeling right now. I was like,\u00a0I need to do sh-t differently and I don\u2019t know what it is, but I\u2019m going to just start following my instincts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Those instincts now include reclamation of a word that has had its fair share of <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/thegrio.com\/2015\/12\/03\/siri-defines-bitch-black-slang\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:controversy;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">controversy<\/a> within the Black community in recent years.
