Warning! Spoilers ahead for Doctor Doom’s Marvel Comics arc!

Doctor Doom is back, as Marvel introduces a new canon version of the character. Doom’s death was among the biggest comic stories of 2025. Now, just shy of six months later, he’s already been resurrected, just in time to play a pivotal role in Marvel’s next big summer event. The big twist, though? Doom is taking on an unexpected form.

The infamous Latverian dictator is confirmed to be back in the present-day Marvel Universe, but he returns in a much younger body. That’s right, Marvel has introduced “Kid Doom,” kicking off an unexpected new era for the publisher’s most complex villain. It’s a familiar move in Marvel canon, but applying it to Doom signals a serious paradigm shift.

Captain America #10 ends with this bombshell. The issue is written by Chip Zdarsky, with art by Valerio Schiti. It leads directly into Marvel’s Armageddon crossover, setting up an unexpected alliance between Captain America and Kid Doom.

Marvel has been teasing Doom’s return in the lead-up to Armageddon. Captain America #10 brings the details a little bit more into focus. Victor Von Doom is back, and “ready to lead Latveria” once more. But will Latveria, or the world, be ready to accept that he’s back as “Kid Doom”?

To be fair, “Teen Doom” is perhaps more appropriate. The Doom that appears at the end of Captain America #10 isn’t a precocious child, but rather a borderline young man. Captain America #11 will presumably clarify the “how” of Doom’s return in this new body, but the “why” is no surprise: Doctor Doom was never going to go gentle into that good night.

That said, there are plenty of questions that arise from this surprise reveal. For starters, the big one is whether this is a new version of Doom, or just a new form. Captain America #10 mostly plays this ambiguous, but there is one telling line of dialogue that seemingly telegraphs the answer.

But Can This Version Of Victor Change His Ways?

It’s fair to speculate that “Kid Doom” might actually be the familiar canon version of Victor Von Doom’s consciousness transferred into a clone body. This is exactly the kind of contingency plan Doom would have, and it’s a trick other Marvel villains have employed in the past. But Captain America #10 slyly suggests something else is going on.

In the issue’s closing pages, Kid Doom greets Steve Rogers by saying, “I’ve read about you, Captain America.” Not “hello again, Rogers,” or something to indicate direct familiarity. Unless Doctor Doom is playing the truth extremely close to the vest, this suggests an all-new version of Doom has entered Marvel canon.

Marvel most famously pulled this trick with the original Iron Lad, also known as “Kid Immortus,” a young variant of Kang the Conqueror whose villainous destiny was subverted. It seems Marvel is embarking upon a similar storyline with Kid Doom. Yet whether this version of Doctor Doom will grow up to be any different than his predecessor, or if it is already too late for him to take a different path forward in Marvel canon, are now major questions as Armageddon approaches.

Captain America #10 is available now from Marvel Comics.
