{"id":418519,"date":"2026-04-30T14:56:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T14:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/418519\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T14:56:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T14:56:10","slug":"france-details-plan-to-phase-out-fossil-fuels-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/418519\/","title":{"rendered":"France details plan to phase out fossil fuels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>France announced a plan to phase out fossil fuels completely by 2050. <\/p>\n<p>While other legislatures have similarly ambitious aims \u2014 the EU and UK both plan to reach net zero by 2050, which functionally requires ending fossil fuels. <\/p>\n<p>What is new is the granularity: The roadmap specifically targets an end to coal by 2030, oil by 2045, and natural gas by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>France can make such commitments more credibly than comparable countries because nuclear provides so much of its electricity; in Britain or Germany, gas is doing more work. <\/p>\n<p>Even so, the country\u2019s cuts to greenhouse emissions slowed in 2025 for the second year in a row, and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/en\/energies\/article\/2026\/04\/29\/france-unveils-plan-to-ditch-all-fossil-fuels-by-2050_6752950_98.html\" class=\"_linkEmbed_10lxo_29\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">remain well below what is needed to meet its climate goals<\/a>,\u201d Le Monde reported.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/a4c793271023338fd3e6a83416f2a4b24b37df1c-2484x2104.png\"  alt=\"France energy emissions chart\" width=\"740\" height=\"626\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"high\" class=\"_imageEmbed_1jdgl_38 _fullContentArea_1jdgl_42\" style=\"max-width:100%;color:transparent\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"France announced a plan to phase out fossil fuels completely by 2050.
