As AI use becomes increasingly prevalent across the news media, we feel it is important for readers to understand how The Times of Israel approaches the technology.<\/p>\n

Like most responsible media outlets, The Times of Israel follows editorial guidelines regarding AI that limit and tightly control the use of the technology in our newsroom. We approach it as a tool with the power to enhance our work, but temper our use with a deep distrust that ensures we do not rely on it as a shortcut or substitute for serious journalism.<\/p>\n

The Times of Israel newsroom does not use AI to write articles or edit articles for us, and does not publish AI-generated content of any type that has not been rigorously reviewed by a human editor.<\/p>\n

In certain cases, reporters and editors may use AI tools to review or suggest changes to specific passages, such as a single paragraph or a headline, chiefly to enhance clarity and readability. There are also instances in which AI tools may be used to translate content, which is then closely edited by a human.<\/p>\n

In rare instances, AI may be used to generate media, such as illustrations, though not any audio or visual content that could be passed off as real. AI-generated media is clearly marked as such.<\/p>\n

In its reporting, The Times of Israel does not rely on AI-generated output as a single source of information. In certain instances, AI tools may be used to help identify potential sources of information or to sift through large data troves.<\/p>\n

All Times of Israel editorial staff are required to abide by detailed rules conforming to these guidelines that have been developed in-house regarding the use of AI.<\/p>\n

As the media landscape is continually transformed by the ever-advancing state of AI technology, The Times of Israel newsroom will strive to adapt and update these guidelines. What will not change is our core commitment to accuracy, fairness and transparency delivered by human journalists.<\/p>\n
