ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) \u2014 Staff at the St. Joseph County Jail along with the St. Joseph County and State Health Departments are looking into the cause of a salmonella outbreak that made several inmates sick last week.<\/p>\n
Officials say the jail’s medical staff treated 23 inmates who had similar food poisoning symptoms last Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The County and State Health Departments were called for an inspection.<\/p>\n
Tests were taken by the health department, however the results have not come back at this time.<\/p>\n
Officials say the jail kitchen passed a health inspection just five days before the outbreak, with only two minor non-critical violations.<\/p>\n
Those violations were for standing water on the floor and mold on wire racks in a walk in cooler.<\/p>\n
There is currently no word on what caused the outbreak, pending test results.<\/p>\n
