\n\tJoseph R.\u00a0Masefield, the multihyphenate who co-wrote the 1979 film \u201cDon\u2019t Go in the House\u201d and supervised sound editing on Sam Raimi\u2019s \u201cThe Evil Dead<\/a>,\u201d died Sept. 24 in Brooklyn, New York. He was 92.<\/p>\n

\n\tBorn in 1933, Masefield served as the supervising sound editor on \u201cThe Evil Dead\u201d in 1981, as well as \u201cAlone in the Dark\u201d in 1982 and \u201cSavage Dawn\u201d in 1985. He edited the footage for \u201cA New Life\u201d in 1981 and the effects for \u201cNaked Came the Stranger\u201d in 1975.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also worked as a production manager on early Imax documentaries \u201cTo Fly\u201d and \u201cLiving Planet\u201d in 1976 and 1979, respectively. His screenwriting debut, \u201cDon\u2019t Go in the House,\u201d was a horror film that he penned with Ellen Hammill and director Joseph Ellison. The film starred Dan Grimaldi, Robert Osth
and Ruth Dardick. He followed up \u201cDon\u2019t Go in the House\u201d with \u201cMassacre at Central High,\u201d which he co-wrote with director Rene Daalder.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 1971, Masefield joined Costello Productions, where he directed and produced numerous educational and industrial films. In front of the camera, he appeared as an actor in 1963\u2019s \u201cSin You Sinners\u201d and 2010\u2019s \u201cWhite Irish Drinkers.\u201d The latter\u2019s director, John Gray, remembers Masefield as \u201ca force of nature, a renaissance man, and he not only loved movies, but he loved the\u00a0movie business\u00a0with a fierce passion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the end of his life, Maesfield was putting together a collection of his poetry. <\/p>\n

\n\tHe is predeceased by his grandson, Gabriel and his wife, Sheila. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. <\/p>\n
