The 63rd New York Film Festival<\/a> celebrated its Opening Night on Friday, September 26 with Luca Guadagnino\u2019s<\/a> \u201cAfter the Hunt,\u201d<\/a> its North American premiere following its debut at Venice last month. This year\u2019s main slate includes films from 26 countries, among them two world premieres (including Bradley Cooper\u2019s \u201cIs This Thing On?\u201d and Ulrich K\u00f6hler\u2019s \u201cGavagai\u201d), plus eight North American and 13 U.S. premieres.<\/p>\n

On the red carpet, we asked star Andrew Garfield<\/a> if there is any hope to seeing him in the newly announced sequel for \u201cThe Social Network.\u201d \u201cNo, no,\u201d Garfield told IndieWire. \u201cEduardo [Saverin] is in Singapore having a good time.\u201d And is the actor excited to eventually see it? \u201cOh yeah.\u201d <\/p>\n

The film<\/a> is called \u201cThe Social Reckoning,\u201d<\/a> which is being written and directed this time by Aaron Sorkin. It will open in theaters on October 9, 2026. And alongside Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg, who is actually billed third among the cast list, Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, and Bill Burr will all star. Sorkin\u2019s original screenplay for the film tells the true story of how Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network\u2019s most guarded secrets.<\/p>\n

Unrelated to the Sorkin film, we also caught up with screenwriter Nora Garrett, who made her feature writing debut with \u201cAfter the Hunt.\u201d \u201cIt all happened really quickly,\u201d she told IndieWire of how she got involved with the Guadagnino project.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuca is a master of knowing what he wants and he is a master of moving with a swiftness without compromising any of his creative integrity,\u201d she continued. \u201cAllan Mandelbaum had come on as a producer and they sent it to Luca\u2019s agent. Originally Luca had a scheduling conflict, but then luckily for me, it worked out.\u201d <\/p>\n

In Ryan Lattanzio\u2019s review of the film<\/a>, he writes, \u201cThe most recent movie \u2018After the Hunt\u2019 calls to mind is Todd Field\u2019s \u201cT\u00e1r,\u201d similarly a cancel-culturally minded story set within academia, and about a female educator abusing her power. That film succeeded so well, in a way that everyone seemed to get without nose-wrinkling, because of its sense of humor about itself. \u2018After the Hunt\u2019 leaves some potential brambles of humor unpricked.\u201d <\/p>\n

Amazon MGM Studios will release \u201cAfter The Hunt\u201d in New York and LA theaters October 10\u00a0with a national rollout October 17.
