{"id":427509,"date":"2026-05-06T02:53:28","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T02:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/427509\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T02:53:28","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T02:53:28","slug":"oswego-police-partner-with-helio-health-to-expand-mental-health-response-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/427509\/","title":{"rendered":"Oswego police partner with Helio Health to expand mental health response program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OSWEGO, N.Y. \u2014 The Oswego City Common Council has approved an extension to a new partnership aimed at improving how police respond to mental health emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement between the Oswego City Police Department and Helio Health will allow officers to continue working alongside mental health clinicians when responding to certain calls.<\/p>\n<p>Officials say the program focuses on situations involving people experiencing mental health crises, homelessness, or critical trauma.<\/p>\n<p>Oswego Police Chief Phil Cady says having a clinician respond directly to scenes helps provide the right kind of support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur mental health clinician co-response program will respond to mental health calls, calls for homelessness, any calls with critical trauma,\u201d Cady said.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders say the partnership is part of a broader effort across Central New York to expand behavioral health services in emergency response.<\/p>\n<p>Helio Health Senior Service Director Tania Lyons says the program adds another layer to traditional emergency services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have your typical police, fire, EMS response.
