The Met Gala<\/a> is all about big sartorial swings, and in a sense NBA superstar Jimmy Butler delivered on that front on Monday evening<\/a>. He pulled up to the gala not in couture or a wearable art installation, but rather in a brand more closely associated with Pilates studios (or coffee shops in close proximity to Pilates studios) than black-tie affairs: Alo Yoga.<\/p>\n

It was a high-risk, potentially high-reward move\u2014the sartorial equivalent of a half-court prayer of a shot with two seconds left on the clock. And on its face, the idea of a sportswear brand making a red-carpet suit is not unheard of either: We\u2019re seeing more and more tech fabric being used in places where tech fabric should maybe not be used<\/a> by the day. But just because Alo is best known for sweats and sporty tees doesn\u2019t mean Golden State\u2019s do-it-all forward<\/a>\u2014who, it\u2019s important to note here, has had an endorsement deal with Alo since fall 2025\u2014pulled up to the Metropolitan Museum of Art like he was headed for the gym. Rather, Alo outfitted Butler in athleisure formalwear: black, wide-legged, pleated satin trousers that cascaded down onto the Met steps, with a black tuxedo jacket cropped just above Butler\u2019s waist that featured two wide peaked lapels.<\/p>\n

The conscious Alo logo on the sleeve was less than ideal, but all things considered\u2014not the worst place to start for a Met Gala fit. The real athleisure of it all came in the form of the sheer black hoodie he wore underneath the tuxedo jacket in lieu of a dress shirt. The hoodie\u2019s slim fit and thin knit stuck out not just in the context of the glitzy event, but as the centerpiece of the outfit itself. It\u2019s rare you see athleisure such as this mixed in with intricate couture gowns and classically bespoke suits. Per WWD<\/a>, rounding out the look was a pair of Alo\u2019s \u201cSunset\u201d sneakers in shiny black patent leather.<\/p>\n
