For healthcare companies, presentations at specialist medical and industry conferences along with publication in peer-reviewed journals place their clinical research programs and technology platforms in front of key stakeholders.<\/p>\n
In sectors such as diagnostics, drug development and medical devices, peer-reviewed journals, conference posters and podium presentations are important for building credibility, validation, partnership formation and ultimately commercial adoption.<\/p>\n
But not every company gets a seat at the table. Conference programs are highly competitive \u2014 abstracts are often blindly evaluated by scientific committees, and high-profile sessions are reserved for invited experts.<\/p>\n
Publication in peer-reviewed journals also requires independent external review, making it the gold standard for data credibility.<\/p>\n

Ensuring the science stacks up<\/p>\n
Portfolio manager Reece O\u2019Connell from Summit Biotechnology Fund, one of Australia\u2019s most active biotechnology investment funds, told Stockhead that when investing in biotechnology companies, be careful not to just fall in love with the story.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe market opportunity, team and potential impact are all important, but none of it really matters if the underlying science doesn\u2019t stack up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why external independent validation is so important.\u201d<\/p>\n
O\u2019Connell said it was important to know what respected researchers, clinicians and independent committees thought of the work \u2013 is the company\u2019s thesis credible? Is the technology possible? Do the clinicians who would actually use it see a real need for it?<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce those pieces start to line up, then you can look at the commercial side, the market demand, the unit economics, and whether the team has the resources and track record to execute,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeer-reviewed journals and conference presentations are a good place to start following that trail.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the science is strong, it should be able to stand up in front of the right people and if\u00a0that validation is missing, investors should probably ask why.\u201d<\/p>\n

Big month of presentations for Alterity<\/p>\n
Alterity Therapeutics (ASX:ATH)<\/a> will present multiple updates on ATH434, its Phase III-ready asset for Multiple System Atrophy (MSA, at international neurology and imaging conferences in May.<\/p>\n At the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine annual meeting in Cape Town, Vanderbilt University researcher Dr Paula Trujillo will give an oral presentation on how advanced MRI imaging data, Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM), detects progressive iron accumulation in early MSA patients<\/a>.<\/p>\n The data was generated through Alterity\u2019s Biomarkers of Progression in Multiple System Atrophy (bioMUSE) Natural History study, together with additional cross-sectional MSA, Parkinson\u2019s Disease and healthy control data.<\/p>\n The bioMUSE study is being run in collaboration with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, under direction of Professor Neurology and principal investigator Dr Daniel Claassen, who was recently appointed Alterity\u2019s chief medical advisor.<\/p>\n The data on QSM imaging showing progressive iron accumulation in early MSA patients also forms the basis of a recently published article in the peer-reviewed journal NeuroImage.<\/p>\n At the Movement Disorder Society of Australia and New Zealand Scientific Meeting in Sydney, Claassen will present poster data from Alterity\u2019s double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase II ATH434-201 study, focusing on how certain biomarkers responded in a new analysis of the trial.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, at the MSA Symposium 2026 in London, CEO Dr David Stamler will provide a clinical update on ATH434 and discuss plans for the company\u2019s planned Phase III trial.<\/p>\n \u201cMSA is a rapidly progressive disease with no approved treatment, and patients and clinicians to showcase emerging clinical data.<\/p>\n Clinical-stage immuno-oncology company Imugene (ASX:IMU)<\/a> is a regular presenter at major global oncology conferences where emerging immunotherapy and cell therapy data is closely watched by clinicians, researchers and pharmaceutical groups.<\/p>\n In April, Imugene announced data from its lead program azer-cel (azercabtagene zapreleucel) had been selected for an oral presentation at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2026.<\/p>\n The company most recently had an oral presentation in December 2025 at the American Society of Hematology.<\/p>\n \u201cPresenting data at major oncology conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals is critical for building scientific credibility, engaging pharmaceutical partners, and
