Scientists Explore Breakthrough Methods!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tExploring the Shadows Cast by Wormholes in the Cosmos<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wormholes, those theoretical tunnels through space-time that could enable faster-than-light travel, might leave behind dark and distinctive traces in the sky that could be detected with telescopes, according to recent research.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wormholes are essentially cosmic shortcuts that emerge from the equations of Einstein\u2019s general theory of relativity. Similar to the space-time around black holes, wormholes are areas where the fabric of space-time is so severely warped that light no longer travels in a straight line. Photons\u2014or light particles emanating from gases, dust, or nearby background stars\u2014bend around the wormhole, creating a ring of light. Photons that get too close, however, would fall through the wormhole, leaving behind what researchers refer to as a \u201cshadow\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These \u201cshadows\u201d of wormholes could be distinguished from the more circular spots left by black holes. If detected, this could serve as proof that the cosmic shortcuts proposed by Albert Einstein over a century ago are indeed real. In a study published on March 30 in the journal preXprint, Rajibul Shaikh, a physicist at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai, India, points out that a certain type of rotating wormhole would produce a shadow that is larger and more distorted than that of a black hole. The shadow of a wormhole would appear somewhat gaping, whereas the shadow of a black hole would remain more disk-like.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBy observing their shadows, it might be possible to distinguish between black holes and wormholes,\u201d the researcher noted in an interview with Live Science.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to general relativity, a wormhole would require exotic matter\u2014which is still theoretical and behaves like anti-gravity\u2014to keep it open; otherwise, it would collapse immediately. The matter needed to keep the wormhole open must, therefore, travel faster than the speed of light, which is currently not possible.<\/p>\n<p>However, if such were the case, a stable wormhole could force us to rethink our understanding of gravity. Calculating the shadow, however, requires knowing the geometry of the surrounding space-time fabric. This depends on the properties of the said exotic matter.
