\n\tLizzo<\/a> is feeling frustrated by the state of social media music marketing, which she says is cutting off her ability to properly promote her upcoming album, Bitch.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a video posted to TikTok on Tuesday (May 12), the singer-songwriter started out by disclaiming \u2014 in anticipation of some haters commenting, \u201cOh, she\u2019s just mad that she\u2019s flopping\u201d \u2014 that that she\u2019s addressing the matter on behalf of all artists, and not just herself. She also noted that \u201cin person, in real life, real people in the industry\u201d have thanked her for speaking out on similar issues in the past.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe algorithm-based way that social media functions now is destroying the music industry,\u201d she then told followers. \u201cIf your algorithm is super serving you things out of order of when they\u2019re happening, then the general public has no idea when music is actually coming out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBack in the day, which was maybe even just five years ago, we used to get things [on our feeds] chronologically,\u201d the Grammy winner continued. \u201cMusic marketing relies heavily on social media, but now, ever since the algorithm has been showing us things out of order, there\u2019s actually no way to successfully promote an album where everyone knows your album is coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLizzo went on to say that even she has missed out on some artists\u2019 releases that she was personally looking forward to. \u201cWhere it bites me in the a\u2013 is I have a private page with over 280,000 people who follow me because they support me, because they love me,\u201d she added. \u201cBut even when I post on that page, I\u2019m not hitting their algorithm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the caption, the Yitty founder also wrote, \u201cDon\u2019t get me started on how the algorithm is racist & fat phobic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe video comes ahead of the June 5 release of Bitch, which so far has been preceded by single \u201cDon\u2019t Make Me Love U\u201d and its title track. It\u2019ll follow 2022\u2019s Special, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the lead-up to the new LP, Lizzo has appeared on The Roast of Kevin Hart \u2014 where she played her flute<\/a> and landed some solid digs at the night\u2019s guest of honor \u2014 and CBS Mornings. On the talk show, she told Gayle King about how she\u2019s feeling amid her legal issues with her former backup dancers, who are in the midst of a lawsuit accusing Lizzo of sexual harassment and toxic workplace conditions \u2014 all of which she vehemently denies.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMost people would [settle],\u201d Lizzo explained<\/a> to King. \u201cI think it is an easy out, but I\u2019m fighting the case because I know that it\u2019s not true.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe truth will come out,\u201d she added at the time. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why I\u2019m not afraid of it. The truth is less salacious than the headlines.\u201d<\/p>\n
