It\u2019s\u00a0amazing just how much Lorna Shore<\/a> can achieve in just seven songs.\u00a0Sonic Temple\u00a0have\u00a0pulled off something of a coup for deathcore fans in booking both Slaughter\u00a0To\u00a0Prevail<\/a> and Lorna Shore in headline positions on the dual Citadel and Sanctuary stages.\u00a0If this is a dry run for future festival headline appearances,\u00a0LS\u00a0have\u00a0smashed the brief.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The crowd is packed in tight for the band\u2019s arrival, and their hour-long slot feels genuinely momentous. Dazzling as the patterns flashing up on screens around the stage are \u2013 casting the boys in hellfire, sparks and\u00a0cosmic backdrops throughout the set, nothing stands out more than the sheer gravitational pull of Will Ramos.\u00a0Strutting across a walkway at the front of the stage, Ramos\u2019s utterly inhuman vocal range is put through its paces across a set that kicks off with\u00a0a sense of grand, annihilating extremity on\u00a0Oblivion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The next hour is\u00a0all about showing off the grandeur of their sound, somehow managing to strike a balance between the sweaty, pummelling foundations of the genre and the more cinematic flourishes\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0pushed that same genre to embrace.\u00a0But while\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0helping elevate deathcore, they\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0distancing themselves from the scene either. A guest appearance from Chelsea Grin\u2019s Tom Barber during\u00a0Sun\/\/Eater\u00a0offers a chance for Ramos to trade feral snarls and howls, while an appearance from Beautiful Child\u00a0Of\u00a0God\u2019s Nick Chance on\u00a0War Machine\u00a0shows Lorna Shore are helping to spotlight emerging bands too.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It all contributes to a sense that this Sonic Temple performance is something special for Lorna Shore, proof positive they\u2019re ready to take on bigger stages and events.\u00a0The main melody and guitar\u00a0leads\u00a0of\u00a0Unbreakable\u00a0taps into stadium metal grandeur against a flesh-flaying wall of blastbeats,\u00a0while the sweeping riffs and symphonic underpinnings of\u00a0Sun\/\/Eater\u00a0feel like they come from the school of Gothenburg\u00a0melodeath\u00a0with added nitro in their veins.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For all the brimstone and bluster of their set, there are hints that Lorna Shore have their sights set on the big leagues too.\u00a0Glenwood\u00a0is\u00a0an absolutely colossal\u00a0tune,\u00a0possibly deathcore\u2019s\u00a0first arena-sized anthem with chest-beating dramatic moments that lend themselves perfectly to the set.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was\u00a0some sad shit,\u201d Ramos decides. \u201cSo\u00a0in my opinion it only makes sense to have some absolute ass beaters.\u201d Closing out on a\u00a0vicious one-two of\u00a0Prison\u00a0Of\u00a0Flesh\u00a0and\u00a0To\u00a0The\u00a0Hellfire \u2013\u00a0the song that introduced Ramos to the world at large \u2013 Lorna Shore\u00a0emerge\u00a0victorious. Biggest band in deathcore? Maybe. But why stop there?\u00a0<\/p>\n
