After Patrick Ferguson had been captured following his defeat in the Battle of King\u2019s Mountain, Jamie asked him to surrender, which was when Patrick pulled a gun out and shot Jamie in the chest. The injury proved fatal, with Jamie dying on the battlefield. Claire raced to his side and refused to leave him. As Claire lies beside him and exhales, the show cuts to a montage of moments from Claire and Jamie\u2019s journey through the years, before cutting back to Claire, who is curled around Jamie’s dead body.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Just when it looked like all hope was lost, both Claire and Jamie gasp for air as the episode cuts to black, leaving fans to wonder whether the pair is alive or has woken up together in the afterlife.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The moment has divided fans and showrunner Matthew B. Roberts has made it clear he has no plans to directly reveal the outcome, as he wants to leave it up to the fans to interpret the scene. That said, he has made it clear he feels there is much more story to be told and hopes to one day be able to revisit the characters of Claire and Jamie.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Following the series finale, Roberts hinted that there could someday be an Outlander movie and seemed to suggest that there were still more stories to tell.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe answer is no,\u201d Roberts told Deadline <\/a>when asked if he got to tell all the stories he wanted to tell through the series. \u201cThere was so much more material. We would never have enough time to do it all. So if you\u2019re asking, would we like more time to do it? Sure, there\u2019s an appetite. We\u2019d love to give it to them.\u201d<\/p>\n Roberts acknowledged that the show was quite taxing on leads Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, and he\u2019s excited for them to be able to explore what\u2019s next for them now that Outlander has ended. At the same time, though, he\u2019s not ready to close the door on Outlander and the possibility of the show continuing at some point down the line.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cCaitr\u00edona and Sam have played these same characters day in and day out for 12 years. That\u2019s a long time. And Outlander is not an easy show. You\u2019re not going to a doctor\u2019s office or a lawyer\u2019s office every day, where you\u2019re sitting in. We ask for a lot across the board. They\u2019re riding horses. They\u2019re fighting, they\u2019re in mud, they\u2019re cold. They should explore what\u2019s out there for them. As they\u2019ve said and I\u2019ve said, and Maril [Davis] has said, never say never.\u201d<\/p>\n Although no plans are in place for an Outlander movie, Roberts did hint that there is a possibility one might \u201cmaybe\u201d happen. However, fans certainly shouldn\u2019t expect any movement on that front in the immediate wake of the show\u2019s ending.\u00a0<\/p>\n Outlander is in a unique position as the show ended before the book series, and we know the final book in Diana Gabaldon\u2019s novels will be coming soon. It has been teased that the ending of the book series will vary from the ending of the show, so it would stand to reason there is a chance an Outlander movie could one day adapt the material of Gabaldon\u2019s final book.\u00a0<\/p>\n There is certainly interest in more Outlander, <\/a>and a feature film would be an exciting way to revisit the franchise in a few years\u2019 time should there be interest from Balfe and Heughan. <\/p>\n
