Alphaland <\/a>owner and Houstonian Christian Guzman, the Houston fitness scene is \u201ccontagious.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cTo me, the biggest things are the natural elements of Houston,\u201d Guzman said. \u201cIt\u2019s hot as hell, it\u2019s humid as hell. There\u2019s something about just being out in the natural elements and feeling the wind hit your face when lifting and sunlight hitting your muscles.\u201d<\/p>\n
Guzman is the owner of one of the biggest and most popular gyms in the country. It sits on 18.5 acres in Missouri City, which he describes as \u201ca dream location for someone who is obsessed with fitness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alphaland, which opened in 2022, features three gyms, two basketball courts, sand volleyball, saunas, a caf\u00e9, a lounge area and an Alphalete Athletics clothing store.<\/p>\n
Guzman, who grew up in Missouri City, said he was inspired to open the gym to create something close to home after being kicked out of multiple gyms for filming his workouts.\u00a0Both creators and non-creators are welcome at Alphaland, he said.<\/p>\n
New, Houston-based place for recovery and fun\u00a0<\/p>\n
After hard workouts, many athletes look for ways to relax, cool down and recover, and the new, Houston-based Earned Recovery offers events across the city for people who want to feel good and be their best selves.<\/p>\n
Earned Recovery co-founders\u00a0Joshua Kalu and Devonn Brown host recurring events that feature a live DJ, cold tubs, yoga, cold plunges, saunas, massage therapy and healthy snacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just saw the escalation of the growth that can happen and the need that the city had for activation and recovery,\u201d Brown said. \u201cThere are so many gyms popping up all the time in Houston, left and right. I don\u2019t feel like there was a space for this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brown is a fitness influencer, and Kalu is a retired NFL player.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kalu first hosted a few recovery gatherings for family and friends in his garage before deciding to expand to larger venues.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saw the need, or the lack of, where people work out,” he said. “They move around every day, but nobody pays attention to their body. They just sleep, watch some Netflix and don\u2019t do anything for their body.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked about Houston\u2019s fitness scene, Brown jokingly said that \u201ceverything is bigger and better in Texas,\u201d and that he’s seen the community evolve since moving from California.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou get a piece of feeling good,\u201d Kalu said. \u201cPeople want to be a part of feeling good and looking good. The drinking culture is not dead all the way, but fitness and working out and taking care of your body is shifting the narrative in Houston for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Alphaland gym at 1502 Industrial Dr, Missouri City.
