Apple\u2019s FaceTime update is stopping some long-distance couples in their tracks (stock image via Getty Images)<\/p>\n

Social media users have been left \u201cshocked\u201d by a recent Apple<\/a> iOS update, which gives a \u201csensitivity warning\u201d if any nudity is visible during FaceTime calls.<\/p>\n

The measure was obviously introduced for the safety and protection of children<\/a> and other non-consenting people. It adds a layer of security that means unwanted nudity in Apple apps including Messages, FaceTime, AirDrop and Contacts will be blurred.<\/p>\n

However, for consenting adults, it\u2019s been putting a bit of a dampener on their online fun \u2013 especially for those in long-distance relationships.<\/p>\n

TikTok user Jamie Knowles explained that he\u2019d been in the shower while on a FaceTime call with his long-distance boyfriend, when his phone popped up with a warning message.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt literally pops up with a warning,\u201d he said<\/a> in a video over the weekend. \u201cIt blocks your screen, like, \u2018Are you sure you should be doing this? No-one\u2019s forcing you to do anything? If someone is forcing you please call this number,\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018No, carry on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Knowles said: \u201cThis is a big issue for people in a long-distance relationship, must I say.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on: \u201cYou can turn it off, and I have turned it off, and it is primarily for children. But still, regardless, panicked me a little bit because I was like, I can\u2019t go four months without seeing something. That\u2019s taking the p***, I can\u2019t go that long. Shocked me, I must say.\u201d<\/p>\n

Someone commented: \u201cI can\u2019t FaceTime my man, he has to FaceTime me because I have a warning sign next to my name.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cOMG same! In the shower too. It\u2019s a great feature but wish I could turn it off.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third wrote: \u201cThis happened to me with my long distance boyfriend I was like what the f***?\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Laura Jones also shared<\/a> a TikTok video sharing her own experience, saying: \u201cYou can\u2019t be doing anything you shouldn\u2019t be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other people have shared concerns about someone \u201cwatching\u201d them, therefore seeing whatever they\u2019re doing on FaceTime.<\/p>\n

However Apple\u2019s support pages<\/a> says that the content warnings are done on the device, and that Apple itself does not have access to the photos or videos.<\/p>\n

But if a user reports the sender of the content to Apple, then the offending material will be sent to them for review. Apple may then forward the information to law enforcement if necessary.<\/p>\n
