{"id":454062,"date":"2026-05-22T05:18:22","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T05:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/454062\/"},"modified":"2026-05-22T05:18:22","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T05:18:22","slug":"japan-will-avoid-over-reliance-on-debt-for-extra-budget-finance-minister-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/454062\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan will avoid over-reliance on debt for extra budget, finance minister says"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">By Leika Kihara<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">TOKYO, May 22 (Reuters) &#8211; Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said on Friday the \u200cgovernment will seek to avoid overly relying \u200con new debt issuance if it were to compile an extra \u200bbudget.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said on Monday she had asked her cabinet to consider compiling a supplementary budget to fund steps to cushion the economic blow \u200cfrom a spike in \u2060costs brought by the Iran war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Domestic media has reported that the supplementary budget \u2060for the current fiscal year could be sized at about 3 trillion yen ($18.9 billion).<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;I should refrain from \u200bcommenting on \u200bthe exact size of \u200bthe extra budget and \u200cI think the prime minister will explain more in detail on Monday. But the size is roughly around the level being talked about,&#8221; Katayama said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Katayama also said she was instructed by the prime minister \u200cto minimise risks in coming \u200bup with steps to ease \u200bthe economic pain from \u200brising inflation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;When we talk about minimising \u200crisk, it includes keeping good \u200bdialogue with \u200bfinancial markets.
