The first Star Wars movie since The Rise of Skywalker has divided the internet yet again! It doesn\u2019t help that The Mandalorian and Grogu is basically TV on the big screen<\/a>, but I do hope this helps Solo age better in retrospect. If that galaxy is far, far away from your mind, there are plenty of other things to watch this Memorial Day weekend, like a new flick from Boots Riley, his first since Sorry to Bother You; Nicolas Cage back as Spider-Noir (in live-action this time<\/a>); and double the Brides on streaming.<\/p>\n

Boots Riley\u2019s follow-up to his 2018 directorial debut, Sorry to Bother You, is even funnier, stranger, and sharper in its critique of capitalism. The surreal comedy is about a group of professional shoplifters, led by Keke Palmer, who get drawn into a war with a girlboss fashion CEO played by Demi Moore. \u2014Alison Willmore<\/p>\n

Marvel\u2019s Spider-Noir character was voiced by Nicolas Cage in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and here he gets central placement in a live-action series. Cage plays private investigator Ben Reilly, who\u2019s struggling to scrape together a living in 1930s New York when he realizes that he should bring back the superhero persona he inhabited years before. The series will be released in both black-and-white and full-color versions. The former looks absolutely gorgeous. \u2014Roxana Hadadi\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not a surprise that the next Duffer brothers series is more than a little like Stranger Things, but this has enough new DNA to be its own thing. Set in a sprawling retirement community inspired by Florida\u2019s the Villages, it lets a stellar group of older actors (Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman) stumble into some supernatural business. \u2014K.V.A.<\/p>\n

\u27bd For nerdier sci-fi fare, Rick and Morty debuts a ninth(!) season<\/a> Sunday.<\/p>\n

The latest in a string of shows about a nice-seeming suburban mom entangled in a web of improbably dark crime, this iteration stars Tatiana Maslany, Jake Johnson, and Dolly De Leon. Maslany is always worth watching, and although Apple series are prone to a glossy sameness, this one has the benefit of a snappy half-hour pacing to keep it moving. \u2014Kathryn VanArendonk<\/p>\n

Last night, we said good-bye to one of the great American entertainment institutions thanks to (or coincident with, depending on whom you ask) the Paramount-Skydance merger. You know Colbert\u2019s thinking of The Lord of the Rings\u2019s Undying Lands this week. \u2014K.V.A.<\/p>\n

Jessie Buckley stars as the titular Bride reanimated by Dr. Euphronious (a kind of pitch-perfect performance by Annette Bening) at the behest of Frank (Christian Bale).<\/p>\n

Quentin Tarantino\u2019s The Whole Bloody Affair ties together both volumes of Kill Bill into a four-and-a-half-hour experience, complete with intermission. Uma Thurman stars as the Bride, a woman seeking revenge after her ex left her for dead on her wedding day. The combined film features a few new bits, including an extended version of the anime sequence centered on O-Ren (Lucy Liu).<\/p>\n
