{"id":457380,"date":"2026-05-24T09:04:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T09:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/457380\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T09:04:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T09:04:13","slug":"coniston-gp-surgery-could-move-into-tourist-information-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/457380\/","title":{"rendered":"Coniston GP surgery could move into tourist information centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Dr Katharina Frey and Dr Ahmed Abbas, who ran Coniston Medical Practice at Wraysdale House, announced they would hand back their contract to the NHS from last summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The practice said this was due to Frey&#8217;s retirement and it being unable to recruit a new partner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Patients warned they would face an hour&#8217;s round-trip by car to the nearest full-time surgery in Ulverston if no replacement was found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The parish council teamed up with residents and local film-makers to create an ad campaign, but no applicants came forward to fill the vancancy permanently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The service has been temporarily maintained by Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Following negotiations with local service provider Cumbria Health Limited, NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board say a branch site of Central Lakes Medical Group will open on 1 July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is expected to operate three days a week, with other sites in Hawkshead and Ambleside also open to patients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">On 30 June, all patients of Coniston Medical Practice will move to Central Lakes Medical Practice or their nearest practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dr Katharina Frey and Dr Ahmed Abbas, who ran Coniston Medical Practice at Wraysdale House, announced they would&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":457381,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[34],"tags":[163,521,85,46],"class_list":["post-457380","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-il","tag-israel"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/457380","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=457380"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/457380\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/457381"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=457380"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=457380"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=457380"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
