The eight Arab and Muslim nations said in a statement: \u201cBen Gvir\u2019s deliberate public humiliation of detainees is a disgraceful assault on human dignity and a clear violation of Israel\u2019s obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, and international human rights law.\u201d<\/p>\n
France and Poland had earlier banned Ben Gvir<\/a> over the incident. A range of Israeli politicians also criticized his behavior, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said it \u201cis not in line with Israel\u2019s values and norms.\u201d<\/p>\n Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar posted on X, \u201cYou knowingly caused harm to our State in this disgraceful display \u2013 and not for the first time.\u201d And President Isaac Herzog appeared to refer to Ben Gvir<\/a> in an impassioned speech in which he stressed that it must be \u201cforbidden to abuse prisoners\u201d no matter how terrible their crimes, saying, \u201cWe are exposed to barbaric acts by a handful of people who think that detainees, those under investigation, or suspects have no human rights whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tGet The Times of Israel’s Daily Edition \t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the terms<\/a><\/p>\n Ben Gvir condemned Herzog in response to the speech, which also called settler violence \u201cbrutish.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cA president who calls hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens brutes is not fit to be president. Full stop,\u201d Ben Gvir wrote on X.<\/p>\n Some of the detainees, who were trying to break Israel\u2019s blockade of Gaza while bringing in a token amount of humanitarian aid, later alleged that they were physically assaulted in detention, which the prison service denied.
