Star Wars: Starfighter rumors are starting to hit online following the box office disappointment of The Mandalorian & Grogu, and if these new leaks are legit, Lucasfilm might be trying to move away from Disney+ leftovers and back into classic big-screen Star Wars territory.

An X user who first posted reported Star Wars Eclipse story details followed up with alleged info about Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, the upcoming movie starring Ryan Gosling.

It’s probably safe to say that Disney is doing damage control.

The user teased that despite a rough weekend for Star Wars fans, “the franchise’s future is bright,” then dropped new claims about Gosling’s character, Mia Goth’s role, Matt Smith’s villain, Amy Adams’ character, and the young Force-sensitive kid at the center of the story.

As always, treat this as rumor for now. Lucasfilm has not confirmed these plot details.

Ryan Gosling Reportedly Plays A War Hero Named Damon

According to the alleged leak, Ryan Gosling’s character has the code name “Damon.”

The role was reportedly written for a character in his early 30s before Gosling was cast. Damon is described as a renowned pilot and war hero whose fame has made him known across the galaxy.

The twist? He doesn’t want the spotlight anymore.

The rumor claims Damon wants to escape his past and live anonymously, which sounds like the classic Star Wars setup: the washed-up hero dragged back into the fight (Obi-Wan, etc).

It also gives Starfighter a different hook from The Mandalorian & Grogu. Instead of leaning on an existing Disney+ storyline, this would put a new character at the center of a standalone theatrical adventure.

"MiaMia Goth in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

Mia Goth Reportedly Plays A Force-Sensitive Mercenary

The biggest rumor involves Mia Goth.

According to the leak, Goth plays a Force-sensitive, lightsaber-using character who works for a warlord and arms dealer played by Matt Smith.

The X user claims Smith’s character is infamous across the galaxy and that Goth’s character is hunting Ryan Gosling’s nephew.

Previous rumors have claimed Goth might be playing a Sith cultist, but the new leak says that is false.

Instead, the source describes her as more of a mercenary, comparing the vibe to Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati from Ahsoka.

“She has her own agenda and plans,” the user claimed, adding that those plans may involve training “a certain someone.”

"AmyAmy Adams as Lois Lane in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel

Amy Adams’ Character Reportedly Kicks Off The Story

The rumor also claims Amy Adams plays the mother of the young boy at the center of the story.

According to the leak, both Adams’ character and her son are Force-sensitive. At the beginning of the film, she is killed, but in her dying moments, she gives her son her lightsaber and tells him to find his uncle.

The uncle is Ryan Gosling’s Damon.

The kid has reportedly never met him, but manages to get off-world and track him down in a cantina, where Damon is living as a washed-up pilot haunted by his past.

That sounds very Star Wars.

You’ve got the dead parent, the lightsaber handoff, the Force-sensitive kid, the reluctant mentor, the cantina, and the dangerous enemies on the hunt.

Starfighter Sounds Like A Classic Star Wars Road Movie

The rumor claims Damon and his nephew don’t get along at first, but eventually bond in “classic Star Wars fashion.”

On paper, that gives Starfighter a simple but workable setup.

A Force-sensitive kid is hunted across the galaxy. His mother dies protecting him. He finds his uncle, a famous pilot who wants nothing to do with his old life. A dangerous lightsaber-using mercenary comes after them. A galaxy-known arms dealer is involved.

It sounds like Star Wars by way of Logan, True Grit, and A New Hope.

Of course, execution is everything. Star Wars fans have heard “new direction” before.

"The

The Timing Matters After The Mandalorian & Grogu

The rumors are landing right after The Mandalorian & Grogu underperformed at the box office.

That movie was supposed to bring Star Wars back to theaters in a big way, but the response has bot been good.

Instead of feeling like a major theatrical event, a lot of fans and box office watchers have argued it came off like an extended episode of the Disney+ series.

That puts more pressure on Starfighter.

Disney and Lucasfilm need the Ryan Gosling movie to feel like a real movie, not another streaming spinoff pushed into theaters.
