\n\tOn Monday night, The LGBT Center kicked off the first day of Pride Month with its annual Fashion Centered fundraiser. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe community center, based in the West Village, only closes its doors to host one private event onsite each year. With significant backing from the fashion industry, the Fashion Centered raises support for The Center\u2019s broad resources and programming for LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers. This year\u2019s event, which honored Thom Browne<\/a> with The Center\u2019s Lifetime Achievement Award, was supported by presenting sponsor Pandora, as well as \u200aJean Paul Gaultier, Supreme \u200aand Ferragamo.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThank you for being honored,\u201d architect and event host Charles Renfro told Browne as the pair mingled by the step-and-repeat, before joining The Center chief executive officer Dr. Carla Smith and other members of the event host committee for a group photo.<\/p>\n

\n\tOutside in The Center\u2019s courtyard, other guests including June Ambrose<\/a>, Cass Bird, Jenna Lyons, Brandon Blackwood<\/a>, Ashlyn Harris, Ann Dexter-Jones and Lourdes Leon took full advantage of the favorable weather and caught up over cocktails.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHi Suzanne \u2014 happy Pride,\u201d said Vivien Yi to Susanne Bartsch, who had just arrived alongside with David Barton.<\/p>\n

\n\tLater, the crowd made their way up the staircase, past the Keith Haring Bathroom \u2014 which features the artist\u2019s \u201cOnce Upon a Time\u201d mural \u2014 and up to the third floor for dinner.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u200aI\u2019d like to say this: Thom\u2019s work and The Center\u2019s work come from a very similar space,\u201d said Janelle Mon\u00e1e, taking the stage to introduce the evening\u2019s honoree. \u201cThey both believe every person deserves to be seen in full, that no one should have to shrink to survive. They understand that when you build a community around shared values, you create something, and that protects people. Something that lasts,\u201d she added. \u201cThom, this Lifetime Achievement Award is yours. Thank you for showing us it\u2019s never really about the suit. It was always about the soul wearing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Mon\u00e1e was dressed in a theatrical runway look from Browne\u2019s latest collection, the designer was wearing his typical uniform \u2014 almost. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u200aI\u2019ve broken one of the cardinal rules of getting your haircut on the day of an event,\u201d Browne told the crowd. \u201cFor evening, \u200aI usually put a darker jacket on with lighter trousers, and for some reason, I put the lighter jacket on. And I said to Andrew [Bolton], \u2018I think I\u2019m turning into my mother,\u2019 \u200abecause my mother once went to work with two different colored shoes on,\u201d he added, before clarifying. \u201c\u200aMy mother had the best style.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u200a\u201dThere\u2019s moments in my life that I do wish my parents were still around, and this is one of those moments that is so important,\u201d Browne said, before launching into his prepared speech. \u201cLooking around the room, I\u2019m reminded that through resilience, we can come together to create change.
