The latest top awards title to screen at the 63rd New York Film Festival<\/a> is Noah Baumbach\u2019s<\/a> \u201cJay Kelly,\u201d<\/a> starring George Clooney<\/a> as an actor approaching the end of his tether. The Netflix film<\/a> premiered last month at Venice<\/a>, with co-stars Adam Sandler<\/a> and Laura Dern<\/a>. The latest movie from the \u201cMarriage Story\u201d and \u201cThe Squid and the Whale\u201d director opens in theaters from Netflix<\/a> on November 14 before streaming December 5.<\/p>\n

We caught up with Dern on the red carpet, talking about how David Lynch<\/a> music collaborator Dean Hurley finally brought \u201cTwin Peaks: The Return\u201d to the big screen<\/a> over the summer. New York City\u2019s Metrograph Theater was the first to show the full version of the series the way Lynch intended. \u201cI think he would love it,\u201d Dern told IndieWire of what she thinks the auteur would think of the feat.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s so profoundly cinematic,\u201d she continued. \u201cFilmmakers, including Noah, including so many who have movies here, have talked, obviously, about David being their muse, [as well as] David being so profoundly important and \u2018The Return\u2019 being so important. To hear the specifics of why \u2018The Return\u2019s\u2019 bravery shaped movies of the last four or five years for specific filmmakers has been so inspiring.\u201d In the series, she played Diane Evans, longtime secretary and confidante of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper.<\/p>\n

Though the Oscar and Emmy winner couldn\u2019t say much about the upcoming confirmed Season 3 of \u201cBig Little Lies,\u201d<\/a> she did tease that the cast is her \u201cfavorite people and one of my favorite characters ever, so I can\u2019t think of a better time.\u201d <\/p>\n

We also briefly chatted with Clooney, who reflected on the work he\u2019s done with Baumbach. This is technically the second time they have worked together, as the director co-wrote \u201cFantastic Mr. Fox\u201d with Wes Anderson<\/a>, and Clooney played the title character. \u201cFirst of all, he\u2019s a good writer,\u201d he told IndieWire. \u201cI didn\u2019t know how good. I\u2019ve never been on a set with him when he was directing. The very first scene is a 12-page one and I thought, \u201cWell, this is a really ambitious, tricky film he\u2019s trying to make.\u2019 I was very excited by the work he wanted to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clooney also recalled the story, which he\u2019s shared before, of auditioning for \u201cBram Stoker\u2019s Dracula\u201d with Francis Ford Coppola. \u201cI thought I was really good. Coppola called my agent and asked if I was drunk.\u201d<\/p>\n
