There\u2019s one reason to have P!NK<\/a> host the Tonys: for the stunts. Everybody\u2019s favorite high-flying pop star knows it. \u201cEveryone always expects me to fly, so I literally walk into every building like, \u2018Where can I hang from? What\u2019s strong enough?\u2019\u201d she told Variety<\/a>. \u201cThey were like, \u2018Calm down, it\u2019s Radio City.\u2019 So we\u2019ll see \u2014 but I\u2019m doing some things!\u201d Those exciting things include \u201cmany, many, many costume changes, as many as I can possibly do.\u201d And also some shenanigans. \u201cThere will be stunts \u2014 and not just for me,\u201d she confirmed. \u201cI\u2019m hoping to cajole another performer into taking a chance with a stunt, so we\u2019ll see!\u201d<\/p>\n

Given that P!NK has never performed on Broadway, it\u2019s no surprise that she was hired in a mercenary manner. She claimed the producers told her they wanted her \u201c\u2018because we want more viewership.\u2019\u201d P!NK liked that. \u201cI was like, \u2018Great!,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201c\u2018I have a purpose! I\u2019m your guy!\u2019\u201d She\u2019s now working with a smart group of Broadway collaborators to capture the right tone. Amber Ruffin, who wrote the book to the Some Like It Hot<\/a> musical, is writing for her, and her \u201cseven and a half minute\u201d opening number will be written by Dear Evan Hansen<\/a> composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be raucous and wild and ridiculous,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt\u2019s sort of a throwback, but not really. There\u2019s gonna be like 170 people onstage with me, and I get to be ridiculous and make fun of myself right away, which was my one rule.\u201d It sounds like P!NK is ready to go \u2026 bigger<\/a>.<\/p>\n
