{"id":477341,"date":"2026-06-05T08:07:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T08:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/477341\/"},"modified":"2026-06-05T08:07:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T08:07:08","slug":"israeli-officials-fear-hamas-resurgence-could-derail-rafah-reconstruction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/477341\/","title":{"rendered":"Israeli officials fear Hamas resurgence could derail Rafah reconstruction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Security officials have warned that Hamas is exploiting the governance vacuum in Gaza to re-establish its power, while the IDF is preoccupied with the northern front in Lebanon, Walla learned on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Officials predict that the Israeli government will actively oppose the Palestinian technocratic government&#8217;s initiatives in the strip, out of anticipation that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/defense-news\/article-898428\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hamas<\/a> will ultimately re-establish control over key power centers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Speaking in a closed forum, one security official summarized Israel&#8217;s current strategic deadlock, warning that &#8220;it is impossible to take a step forward&#8221; under the current conditions without &#8220;increasing the threats&#8221; to the country.<\/p>\n<p>Working alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/article-897395\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Board of Peace<\/a> Director-General Nickolay Mladenov, the technocratic government is promoting a &#8220;Rafah First&#8221; initiative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The strategy aims to transform Rafah into a demilitarized, terror-free zone, allowing for the resettlement of a population that has undergone security vetting to ensure no traces of Hamas leak through.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am aware that there is talk about rehabilitating the Gaza Strip, and infrastructure, roads, and building tenders have gone out to contractors. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/politics-and-diplomacy\/article-898468\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump&#8217;s<\/a> original plan speaks of Rafah first. Meaning that, even then, they designated Rafah as the first location, where everything would begin,&#8221; a defense official said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">&#8220;But this will happen only after we have verified that the area is completely demilitarized and completely cleared of any weaponry.
