Palantir Technologies Inc. CEO Alex Karp has a colorful comparison for corporate AI deployments: pornography<\/a>.<\/p>\n In an appearance on Thursday on the TBPN podcast, Karp argued that most companies aren\u2019t using artificial intelligence to solve real business problems \u2014 they\u2019re using it the way someone scrolls an adult site at 2 a.m.<\/p>\n Karp claims that Palantir has developed an internal product specifically designed to break enterprises of what he calls \u201ctoken maxing\u201d \u2014 the compulsive overconsumption of AI tokens that looks like work but delivers nothing.<\/p>\n The internal name isn\u2019t something he\u2019d say on air, but the concept he described freely: a tool to wean companies off what he called \u201cthe masturbation thing.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cPeople are just, like, sitting there all day\u2026 enterprises are, like, \u2018Okay we believe this will create value, but we cannot have people just checking the weather with it, just rearranging deck chairs on their personal Titanic,’\u201d Karp said.<\/p>\n Don’t Miss:<\/p>\n Karp and the hosts riffed on the idea of AI as a \u201ctool-shaped object\u201d \u2014 something that looks like productivity from the outside but functions more like a compulsion.<\/p>\n The technology feels useful because, in certain narrow tasks, it genuinely is, which is exactly what makes the addiction hard to break.<\/p>\n \u201cOne more dashboard, one more time. The enterprises actually deploying the technology, once past the hype, increasingly don\u2019t.<\/p>\n \u201cThe large language model frontier companies are super charismatic with investors,\u201d Karp said. \u201cI\u2019ll give you some news: they\u2019re super not charismatic with enterprises.\u201d<\/p>\n His sales strategy for Palantir reflects the gap. Rather than competing head-to-head with OpenAI or Anthropic for enterprise mindshare, Karp said he tells prospects to go spend time with the frontier players first \u2014 and call him when they\u2019re done.<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t even call.
