President Donald Trump on Monday morning said both Iran and Israel are set to agree to an immediate ceasefire after both sides exchanged a series of strikes starting late on Sunday in the biggest escalation between the two countries since the Iran War ceasefire went into effect in April.<\/p>\n

In a Truth Social post<\/a> early on Monday, Trump wrote that both Iran and Israel are \u201clooking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE,\u201d without specifying when this would go into effect.<\/p>\n The president then wrote that peace talks with Iran are still proceeding \u201csubject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way\u201d and claimed, \u201cthings should move quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n Late on Sunday, Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps launched a barrage of missiles at Israel and told state media<\/a> that this was done in response to Israel\u2019s strikes on Lebanon.<\/p>\n In its statement, the IRGC said it would \u201cnot tolerate any violation of the ceasefire or aggression against Lebanon,\u201d and the attacks are both a response and a \u201cwarning<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n A few hours later, the Israeli Defense Forces said<\/a> its aircraft had struck Iranian military targets in \u201cwestern and central Iran,\u201d with blasts being reported in Tehran.<\/p>\n What had Trump Said Earlier About The Escalation?<\/p>\n Shortly after Iran launched its first salvo, Trump was asked about Israel\u2019s potential response by Fox News\u2019 Trey Yingst and Axios\u2019 Barak Ravid. Yingst said Trump told him<\/a> that the Iranian attack would \u201ccertainly not\u2026help negotiations.\u201d He added, \u201cWhat I would suggest to Iran: You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough, get back to the table and make a deal.\u201d Trump also told Yingst that he believed a deal with Iran was close to completion, although the president and his administration have talked about an imminent deal for weeks now. The president also said he was \u201cnot happy\u201d about Israel\u2019s latest strikes on Lebanon after a ceasefire was brokered last week. Trump told Axios<\/a> that he will call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu \u201cright now and tell him not to retaliate. Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike, and Iran had its strike.
