The upside to being a masked\/semi-anonymous band is that it can look really freaking sweet. The downside is that it\u2019s pretty easy for people to pretend to be you. Everyone\u2019s favorite polka-dotted, math-rockin\u2019 duo from Quebec, Angine de Poitrine<\/a>, just found that out the hard way.<\/p>\n

As reported by Exclaim!<\/a>, there\u2019s apparently a fake Angine de Poitrine copying the original group\u2019s schtick in Russia. An Instagram post from May 17th seemingly catches the imposters in action, performing a set at a bar in Moscow. Watch the clip below. We gotta say, the outfits are pretty convincing. If not for the lack of a double-neck guitar (Khn de Poitrine would never rock with just one measly neck!), we might have just been fooled as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a fake [version of the] band touring Russia already, with the costumes and everything,\u201d Sam Murdock, an art director and layout designer who works with the real Angine de Poitrine, told Exclaim!<\/a> \u201cAnd they keep tagging the band and they don\u2019t even say it\u2019s not a real band.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re living in a weird time where everyone\u2019s trying to make money off the band,\u201d Murdock continued. \u201cRight now, there\u2019s like 1,500 fake T-shirts online already, and I removed 700 fake T-shirts on Tee Republic and on Red Bubble, but they keep on popping up.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of writing, it\u2019s unclear if the Russian imposters are continuing to perform throughout the motherland. Who knows, maybe there\u2019s a ton of Angine de Posters\u00a0throughout the world. Perhaps they should take a page out of MF DOOM\u2019s book<\/a> and use it to their advantage.<\/p>\n
