iOS 27 includes code references to break reminders that Siri may display after especially long conversations. Here are the details.<\/p>\n

Siri AI may eventually nudge users to take a break<\/p>\n

Among the growing concerns about conversational chatbots is that some users can become overly attached to them or spend long stretches of time talking to them as if they were real people.<\/p>\n

In extreme cases, reports have described episodes of so-called \u201cAI psychosis,\u201d or \u201cchatbot psychosis<\/a>,\u201d in which users develop delusional beliefs or see existing mental health struggles worsen after prolonged chatbot interactions.<\/p>\n

That has led companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google to add safety measures meant to remind users of the limits of AI companions and encourage healthier usage.<\/p>\n

ChatGPT, for instance, can now show reminders<\/a> during especially long conversations, encouraging users to take a break. Claude, meanwhile, has been spotted nudging users<\/a> to rest, drink water, or step away after extended sessions.<\/p>\n

During this week\u2019s WWDC keynote, Apple addressed several privacy and responsibility questions involved in the development of Siri AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, one aspect the company didn\u2019t address was what happens when a conversation goes on for too long.<\/p>\n

As spotted by Aaron Perris<\/a> on X, iOS 27 includes code strings for a \u201cTake a Break Message,\u201d suggesting that Siri AI may display a break reminder after especially long conversations. The message also reminds the user that Siri is not a real person.<\/p>\n

In iOS 27, if you use the new Siri for too long, you may receive a “take a break messsage”<\/p>\n

Based on the code shared by Perris, there does not appear to be a fixed amount of time after which Siri will show the reminder. Instead, Apple could use that value in combination with other signals to decide whether to display the message, or that the limit may vary depending on factors beyond conversation length alone.<\/p>\n

Apple has yet to officially confirm the feature, and how it will work, if it\u2019s ever rolled out. Right now, references to it only appear in code. Still, the existence of these strings suggests the company is aware that this is one of the responsibilities that come with distributing AI-powered chatbots.<\/p>\n
