Both Cuti Romero and Pape Matar Sarr featured off the bench in their countries\u2019 final pre-World Cup friendlies overnight (Tuesday, 9 June).<\/p>\n

Our captain stepped up his recovery from the knee injury that ruled him out of the final six games of the Premier League season, playing the whole second half of Argentina\u2019s 3-0 win against Iceland at Auburn University in Alabama.<\/p>\n

The defender, who returned to action for 27 minutes<\/a> of Argentina\u2019s first warm-up friendly against Honduras last Saturday (6 June), came on for Lisandro Martinez at the break with La Albiceleste\u200a one goal in front thanks to Valentin Barco\u2019s eighth-minute opener.<\/p>\n

Cuti and his teammates went on to win 3-0 in the final game before they start their World Cup defence, with Lionel Messi\u2019s 72nd-minute penalty doubling their lead before Thiago Almada finished the game off with three minutes to go.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Pape\u2019s Senegal played a goalless draw with Saudi Arabia at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas, 10 days after their first preparation match<\/a> against the United States in Charlotte, North Carolina.<\/p>\n

The midfielder played the final 28 minutes of the clash, which the Lions of Teranga finished with 10 players after Nicolas Jackson was dismissed for two yellow card offences in three minutes, coming on for Sunderland\u2019s Habib Diarra.<\/p>\n

Argentina begin their World Cup campaign in Group J, hosting Algeria in the early hours of Wednesday, 17 June (2am BST) in Kansas City, while Senegal\u2019s first match in Group I is against 2018 winners France in New York on Tuesday, 16 June (8pm BST).<\/p>\n
