Simon Case, who was Boris Johnson\u2019s cabinet secretary and head of the Civil Service during Covid, has teamed up with two former Downing Street colleagues at AI market research firm Electric Twin.<\/p>\n
Lord Case has joined the data-modelling start-up as an adviser on its ethics board, one of only a small number of major roles he has taken on since leaving the civil service in December 2024 on health grounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Electric Twin was founded in 2023 by Ben Warner<\/a>, a former chief adviser on digital and data to the prime minister, and Alex Cooper, a former British Army officer and director of mass testing at the Department of Health & Social Care.<\/p>\n It conducts instant market research for the likes of BP and Virgin by creating \u201csynthetic\u201d populations for marketeers to test out corporate messaging, new products and advertising campaigns. It recently secured $14 million in venture capital funding from investors including Atomico and US investor Marc Andreessen.<\/p>\n Case said: \u201cAfter years in government, you learn that the hardest part of any decision is having poor data on what might happen next. Electric Twin is fixing this problem by giving leaders a better way to test assumptions, stress-test choices and understand how real people may respond.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThat matters in government, and it matters just as much in business. I worked with Alex and Ben in No 10 and I know that this is a team combining serious technological ambition with a clear sense of public responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n Cooper, chief executive of Electric Twin, said Case\u2019s experience of advising Boris Johnson on \u201cethics at one of the most challenging times in recent history\u201d made him the ideal candidate for the role.<\/p>\n \u201cWe founded Electric Twin following our experience during a national crisis where the quality of decisions mattered enormously, but the information available to inform decisions was often incomplete,\u201d he said. \u201cHaving worked with Simon in No 10 during this period, I have a deep respect for his expertise and judgment as we work to solve this problem.\u201d<\/p>\n Case also chairs Team Barrow, a \u00a3200 million local development fund involving the government, Westmorland and Furness council and BAE Systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n He joins Electric Twin\u2019s existing ethics advisers, who include Antony Feltham-White, deputy chaplain general of the army, and Susan Liautaud, founder of Susan Liautaud & Associates Limited, an ethics advisory firm.<\/p>\n Electric Twin\u2019s Warner was a key figure in the modelling software used by Vote Leave\u2019s EU referendum campaign in 2016, as well as in the 2019 general election.
