The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has\u00a0today, 12 June 2026, approved a new\u00a0lower dose\u00a0version of the adrenaline (epinephrine) nasal spray, EURneffy, for the emergency treatment of\u00a0serious allergic reactions\u00a0(anaphylaxis)\u00a0in children\u00a0aged four years and over.<\/p>\n
This approval means younger children are eligible for a needle-free treatment\u00a0option\u00a0for the first time\u00a0in the UK.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a01 mg\u00a0dose\u00a0nasal spray is\u00a0indicated\u00a0for children aged 4 years and over who weigh between 15 kg\u00a0and 30 kg. This\u00a0extends\u00a0access beyond the previously authorised 2 mg product, which is intended for\u00a0adults and\u00a0children\u00a010 years and above\u00a0weighing 30 kg or more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Adrenaline is\u00a0a\u00a0well-established\u00a0treatment for\u00a0serious\u00a0allergic\u00a0reactions and is intended for immediate self-administration\u00a0at the first signs of anaphylaxis,\u00a0before emergency medical help arrives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The nasal spray\u00a0delivers\u00a0a\u00a0dose into\u00a0the\u00a0nostril and\u00a0is\u00a0suitable for use even if the nose is\u00a0congested.\u00a0As with adrenaline auto-injectors, two doses\u00a0(sprays)\u00a0must\u00a0always be carried\u00a0in case a second dose is needed before the ambulance arrives.\u00a0\u2018999\u2019\u00a0must be dialled\u00a0immediately\u00a0after a dose has been given.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The new 1 mg dose\u00a0provides\u00a0an alternative\u00a0for younger patients, who until now have relied on injectable adrenaline devices.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As with any medicine, the MHRA will keep the safety and effectiveness of the adrenaline nasal spray under close review.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
