On Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez\u2019s accent work<\/p>\n

Lovett calls attention to Welsh actor Gerran Howell<\/a>\u2018s impressive accent work as the American Dr. Dennis Whitaker, but when another member of the panel chimes in to give Australian Shabana Azeez<\/a>\u00a0credit for her accent work playing Victoria Javadi, the moderator gives a dismissive response.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s easier for Australians to do the American accent sometimes,\u201d Lovett asserts, to which Shabana fires back, \u201cAnd what does that mean?\u201d<\/p>\n

Lovett defends himself by saying \u201ca lot of Australians\u201d claim \u201cit\u2019s easier to do an American accent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWho are those people?\u201d Shabana asks with a laugh. Another person jokes they should \u201ccut\u201d the segment to try and diffuse the tension, which scores a big laugh from the room, but then Shabana goes on to explain the reality of her own accent work.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, actually, I think it\u2019s really hard because my accent\u2019s right up the back,\u201d Shabana explained, gesturing toward her throat. \u201cAnd your accent\u2019s right up the front,\u201d she continues, seamlessly transitioning into American. \u201cIt\u2019s the opposite, actually.\u201d<\/p>\n
