{"id":490525,"date":"2026-06-13T06:50:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-13T06:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/490525\/"},"modified":"2026-06-13T06:50:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-13T06:50:11","slug":"zuckerberg-says-meta-made-mistakes-in-ai-workforce-shift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/490525\/","title":{"rendered":"Zuckerberg says Meta made \u2018mistakes\u2019 in AI workforce shift"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Meta chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg has told employees that the social media giant has made mistakes in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/business\/companies-markets\/meta-begins-job-cuts-in-efficiency-push-spurred-on-by-ai?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\">AI transformation of its workforce,<\/a> according to an internal memo seen by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Zuckerberg is pumping hundreds of billions of dollars into AI as he seeks to reshape his company\u2019s inner workings around the technology, reflecting a broader pattern among major \u200bUS companies in 2026, particularly in the tech sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In the memo, Zuckerberg describes the rapid advances in AI and the challenges brought on by the boom in the technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cGiven the complexity of these changes, we\u2019ve made mistakes and will almost certainly make more,\u201d Zuckerberg said, adding that he is also \u201cfocused on providing as much stability as possible\u201d in terms of organisation changes going forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cI don\u2019t want to overpromise because the world is changing in ways that are out of our control,\u201d he said, reiterating that Meta does not expect more company-wide layoffs in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">He said Meta will try to find new roles for employees reassigned to train AI models, after the Facebook owner carried out a massive restructuring in May, laying off 10 per cent of its workforce globally and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/business\/meta-lays-out-details-of-may-20-restructuring-in-internal-document?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\">transferring 7,000 employees to new initiatives<\/a> related to AI workflows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cBy creating important new roles for people, this also allowed us to shrink the size of teams knowing that if we make mistakes in some places, then we could transfer some people back,\u201d Zuckerberg said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Meta declined to comment on the memo when contacted by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The company plans to increase investment in team-building initiatives, Zuckerberg said, including higher budgets for offsites and corporate events, and is organising a large-scale hackathon in July to foster cross-team collaboration and development on its latest models.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Zuckerberg said Meta has taken note of concerns over the widening of manager oversight responsibilities and plans to scale back the practice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Meta\u2019s new Applied AI Engineering unit reportedly had a flat structure with up to 50:1 ratio of individual contributors to managers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In April, Meta raised its annual capital spending forecast to between US$125 billion (S$161 billion) and US$145 billion.
