The Strokes<\/a> played \u2018Falling Out Of Love<\/a>\u2018 in full for the first time during their headline performance at Bonnaroo \u2013 check it out below.<\/p>\n

The track comes from \u2018Reality Awaits\u2019, the highly anticipated seventh album from the New York indie icons, and the follow-up to 2020\u2019s \u2018The New Abnormal<\/a>\u2019. It\u2019s due for release on July 24, and you can pre-order it\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, Julian Casablancas<\/a> and co. have played the song in full for the first time while headlining Bonnaroo Festival last night (June 12).\u00a0They also opened with \u2018Killing Lies\u2019, marking the first performance of the 2005 track \u2013 taken from their album \u2018First Impressions of Earth<\/a>\u2018 \u2013 since 2022.<\/p>\n

Like their other recent shows, the band performed without guitarist Nick Valensi, having recently confirmed he\u00a0would be taking a \u201ctemporary break\u201d<\/a> from playing live. Steve Schiltz took over guitar duties in his place.<\/p>\n

The rest of the set saw them sail through their biggest hits, including \u2018Hard to Explain\u2019, \u2018You Only Live Once\u2019, \u2018Someday\u2019, \u2018Reptilia\u2019, \u2018Last Nite\u2019 and more, before they closed out the show with \u2018Ize of the World\u2019, also from \u2018First Impressions of Earth\u2019.<\/p>\n

As well as \u2018Falling Out Of Love\u2019, the album has been previewed by the lead single \u2018Going Shopping<\/a>\u2019. The band recently pushed the release date to July 24<\/a>, while announcing a huge homecoming New York show<\/a> with Beach House<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Fcukers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new date in New York builds on an already-busy year of touring for The Strokes. They have already performed at\u00a0Coachella 2026<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 where they\u00a0called out the CIA and the United States government<\/a> in their set \u2013 and are now getting ready for more festival appearances at Summer Sonic and more.<\/p>\n

They have also announced a huge tour set to hit the UK, North America, Europe and Japan.<\/a>\u00a0It will be their first full run of headline dates in the UK and Ireland in over 20 years, and gigs include stops at London\u2019s O2. Support comes from\u00a0Thundercat<\/a>,\u00a0Cage the Elephant<\/a>,\u00a0Hamilton Leithauser<\/a>,\u00a0Fat White Family<\/a>, Alex Cameron and \u00d6L\u00dcM, and\u00a0more dates have been added<\/a>\u00a0due to huge demand.<\/p>\n

The first two songs to be shared from \u2018Reality Awaits\u2019 have received a mixed response from fans, with many being divided over the use of a vocoder on\u00a0Julian Casablancas<\/a>\u2019 voice \u2013 which gives it the same distinctive sound as seen on the hit 2013\u00a0Daft Punk<\/a>\u00a0collab \u2018Instant Crush\u2019 and later tracks like 2020\u2019s \u2018At the Door\u2019.<\/p>\n

In response to some backlash, guitarist and keyboard player\u00a0Albert Hammond Jr has hit back at critics<\/a>\u00a0and described \u2018Reality Awaits\u2019 as his \u201cfavourite album\u201d The Strokes have ever done.<\/p>\n

He also said that working with\u00a0Rick Rubin<\/a>\u00a0on the record was\u00a0\u201cone of his favourite recording experiences\u201d<\/a>\u00a0as a musician.<\/p>\n

When \u2018Going Shopping\u2019 dropped earlier in 2026,\u00a0NME\u00a0gave the single a three-star review\u00a0<\/a>and described it as a song that \u201cdoesn\u2019t feel bold\u201d but also \u201cdoes avoid playing anything safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou couldn\u2019t definitively place its sound on any of The Strokes\u2019 previous six albums, but the lack of spirit and tenacity \u2013 save for a guitar solo at the end \u2013 is noticeable,\u201d the review read. \u201c\u2018If you\u2019re better than me you don\u2019t have to judge me\u2019, signs off Casablancas, with an imaginary raised eyebrow. But perhaps even he would admit that The Strokes are better than this.\u201d<\/p>\n
