President Donald Trump announced plans on Tuesday for a new website that will allow consumers to buy drugs directly from manufacturers.<\/p>\n
The website will be government-run and known as TrumpRx, according to The Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a deal with the White House, drug maker Pfizer has agreed to sell some of its medications on the site at a reduced rate, according to the Journal.<\/p>\n Trump said deals with other drug companies are in the works, according to NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe American consumers have been subsidizing research and development for the entire planet,\u201d Trump said in a press conference, joined by his health team and Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, according to NPR. \u201cThey put all of that on us, and yet they were the beneficiaries too. So it\u2019s been changed.\u201d<\/p>\n The website is part of an effort to bring drug prices paid by Americans more in line with those in other developed nations<\/a>, NPR said.<\/p>\n Separately, Trump said Pfizer would offer all of its drugs to Medicaid at a reduced, \u201cmost favored nation\u201d price, as well as introduce any new drugs to the U.S. market at the reduced prices, according to the Journal.<\/p>\n Some of the drugs that would be offered on the TrumpRx site include Eucrisa, a dermatitis treatment; Xeljanz, a pill for rheumatoid arthritis; and Zavzpret, a treatment for migraines, according to the Journal.<\/p>\n Trump said Pfizer agreed to discounts between 50% and 100% for drugs it puts on the new website, according to the Journal. The company said the majority of its \u201cprimary care treatments and some select specialty brands will be offered at savings that will range as high as 85% and on average 50%.\u201d<\/p>\n In return, the company gets a three-year exemption from national security-related tariffs, the Journal said. In addition to the drug discounts, the company must also invest in U.S.-based manufacturing.<\/p>\n The TrumpRx site will launch in early 2026, according to CNN<\/a>. It won\u2019t sell or distribute drugs.<\/p>\n Instead, individuals will be able to search for their medications and then be redirected to manufacturers\u2019 direct sales channels.<\/p>\n Shoppers won\u2019t be able to use their health insurance through the site, according to NPR. The discounts will be based on starting list prices, which for some medications are high.<\/p>\n That means even with the discounts, the drugs on the site might not be affordable.<\/p>\n Consumers with insurance could pay less at the pharmacy, NPR said.<\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
