\n\tThe Locarno Film Festival<\/a> will celebrate Italian actress and director Asia Argento<\/a> with its lifetime achievement award dedicated to creative pioneers.<\/p>\n

\n\tShe will receive the award on Aug. 13 in the Swiss lakeside town\u2019s 8,000 seat outdoor Piazza Grande venue, where she will also present her most recent film, Jorge Thielen Armand\u2019s \u201cDeath Has No Master.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tArgento, who is Italian horror maestro Dario Argento\u2019s daughter, made her onscreen debut as a child in Lamberto Bava\u2019s \u201cDemons 2\u2033 (1986) and subsequently appeared in Nanni Moretti\u2019s\u201d Palombella rossa\u201d (1989); hit comic Carlo Verdone\u2019s \u201cPerdiamoci di vista\u201d (1994); and Italy-based Peter Del Monte\u2019s \u201cTraveling Companion\u201d (1996). Argento started working with her father in \u201cTrauma\u201d (1993) followed by her turn in \u201cThe Stendhal Syndrome\u201d (1996).<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the international arena, Argento\u2019s vast body of work as an actress comprises collaborations with Patrice Ch\u00e9reau in \u201cQueen Margot\u201d (1994); Abel Ferrara in \u201cNew Rose Hotel\u201d (1998) and \u201cGo Go Tales\u201d 2007); Gus Van Sant in \u201cLast Days\u201d (2005); George A. Romero in \u201cLand of the Dead\u201d (2005); Sofia Coppola in \u201cMarie Antoinette\u201d (2006); Olivier Assayas in \u201cBoarding Gate\u201d (2007); and Catherine Breillat in \u201cThe Last Mistress\u201d (2007). She has starred in blockbusters such as \u201cxXx\u201d (2002), directed by Rob Cohen, and thrillers like Olivier Megaton\u2019s \u201cThe Red Siren\u201d (2002). In tandem with her acting career, Argento has directed several films, starting with her semi-autobiographical debut \u201cScarlet Diva\u201d (2000) followed by \u201cThe Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things\u201d (2004) and \u201cMisunderstood\u201d with Charlotte Gainsbourg (2014).<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a statement, Locarno artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro praised her as \u201can artist who has always managed to reimagine what it means to make films, constantly challenging herself and taking personal risks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNazzaro added: \u201cDriven by a radical creative calling, through which she has probed the limits and explored the possibilities of cinema, both as an actress and as a director, Asia Argento embodies a vitality, generosity, and restlessness that stands as among the most vivid representations of all that cinema still has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n
