Five years after Armie Hammer\u2019s once promising movie star career, built on good looks, solid performances, and being tall, fell apart in a flurry of allegations that ranged from sexual assault to cannibalism, the disgraced actor spoke to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> about his recent return to Hollywood. Last year, he starred in\u00a0Frontier Crucible<\/a>, his first movie since 2022\u2019s Death On The Nile.\u00a0Next, he\u2019ll star in\u00a0Citizen Vigilante, a movie directed by infamous schlockmeister Uwe Boll<\/a>. \u201cI would have done a fucking cat food commercial,\u201d he says. \u201cI just wanted to work again.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

With a contrite crew cut on his head and remorse on his tongue, Hammer now engages in what he calls \u201cgratitude practice,\u201d and a routine that includes waking up at 6:30, drinking coffee, and taking his kids to school. He\u2019s also been using the Tyler, the Creator method<\/a> of shutting out criticism. (\u201cHow The Fuck Is Cyber Bullying Real. Just Walk Away From The Screen[\u2026]Close Your Eyes.\u201d) But trying to get out from under the rock of cancellation hasn\u2019t been easy. \u201cIt\u2019s like Sisyphus pushing the boulder,\u201d he says, \u201cexcept my boulder is covered in Vaseline.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Still, as gross as that sounds, he wouldn\u2019t break a One Wish Willow and wish for a do-over. After seeing Obsession, a friend asked if he would undo everything that had happened to him. \u201cHonestly, no,\u201d he says over apple tart \u00e0 la mode. \u201cI remember the emotional state and the mental state I was in before all that happened. Healthy people don\u2019t act the way I was acting. I would have loved it if I could have had an opportunity to do it in a little bit more of a gentle way. But at the end of the day, you get what you get.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s obviously difficult to take this redemption piece seriously when Hammer is chewing on steak frites and apple tart \u00e0 la mode. In 2021, an ex-girlfriend<\/a> accused him of raping her and of saying he\u2019d like to cook and eat one of her ribs, which gave her PTSD. Another ex, Paige Lorenze, who was 22 when she started dating the 34-year-old and married Hammer, said he \u201cbranded her, purposefully left her covered in bruises, and talked about \u2018consuming her<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wanted me to show them off and be proud of them,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cI said, \u2018How am I supposed to see other people when I have bruises?\u2019 He said, \u2018That\u2019s the point.\u2019 I think it was a part of marking and branding.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ironically, Hammer uses similar language in the interview. \u201cI used to call myself a consumer,\u201d he tells THR. \u201cDrinks, women, validation, experiences \u2014 I just wanted to consume. All of it. More, more, more. I didn\u2019t actually know how to give myself what I needed internally, so I relied on external sources. It\u2019s like a black hole\u2014no matter how much you throw in, it\u2019s gone. You\u2019re never going to fill up a black hole.\u201d Now, he chalks his behavior up to \u201cimposter syndrome,\u201d which is really downplaying the accusations, but it\u2019s his comeback.
