{"id":498634,"date":"2026-06-18T07:13:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T07:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/498634\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T07:13:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T07:13:08","slug":"surrey-mother-praises-guildford-hospice-for-caring-for-her-son","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/498634\/","title":{"rendered":"Surrey mother praises Guildford hospice for caring for her son"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The mother of a child who died due to a rare brain condition said hospice care was &#8220;absolutely vital&#8221;, as she praised the charity that looked after her son.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Fleur Bryant, from Outwood near Horley in Surrey, spent five weeks with her nine-year-old son Toby at Christopher&#8217;s in Guildford, run by the Shooting Star Children&#8217;s Hospice, before his death from Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) in May 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Now, Fleur has praised the hospice for supporting her family and &#8220;becoming their home&#8221; at the end of Toby&#8217;s life, and helping to give him a &#8220;good quality death&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It comes as the hospice calls for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c982182pkkzo\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more support from the government <\/a>to continue to provide its &#8220;first class&#8221; care, and support charities like it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Fleur told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/live\/bbc_radio_surrey\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC Radio Surrey<\/a>: &#8220;Toby was an incredible little boy. He was obsessed with trains, and was incredibly funny &#8211; he had no idea how funny he was.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It was an incredibly difficult period to navigate but the hospice were there for us.
