Star Wars\u2019\u00a0Daisy Ridley is venturing into a quarantine zone that brings the dead back to life in the new teaser for We Bury the Dead.<\/p>\n

Vertical will release the zombie film in theaters on January 2, 2026.<\/p>\n

After a catastrophic American military experiment results in mass casualties across Tasmania, Ava (Ridley) joins a body retrieval unit to help identify the dead and search for her husband on the southern part of the island. As Ava makes her way south, across the ravaged landscape, she soon learns that some of the victims of the disaster are coming back to life.<\/p>\n

We Bury the Dead is written and directed by Zak Hilditch (1922<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Brenton Thwaites (Ghosts of War, Maleficent), Mark Coles Smith (Beast of War<\/a>), and Matt Whelan (\u201cNarcos\u201d) co-star.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe Bury The Dead has been a true labor of love since day one from everyone involved, and it\u2019s been great seeing the responses to the film so far. I can\u2019t wait for a wider audience to experience the film on the big screen across North America,\u201d Hilditch said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Ridley added, \u201cZak has created a unique, terrifying tale about the undead and how far the living will go to reunite with their loved ones. I was thrilled to be part of bringing this nightmare to life, and I can\u2019t wait to share the movie with the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

While We Bury the Dead favors drama over horror, Hilditch ensures his zombies have bite. I wrote in my SXSW review<\/a>, \u201cHilditch peppers in a few intense horror sequences that get the pulse pounding, making you wish he\u2019d commit more fully to exploring the rules of this new type of outbreak more fully.\u201d<\/p>\n
