This event welcomed\u00a080\u00a0participants from government, banking, academia, research,\u00a0consulting\u00a0and industry as a lead up to the NEA\u2019s high-level event later this year, Roadmaps to New Nuclear.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Discussions highlighted a clear message: while the economic case for new nuclear projects is strengthening, large-scale deployment will require financing models that better address construction risk, delivery\u00a0risk\u00a0and workforce readiness. Public-sector support,\u00a0such as loan guarantees,\u00a0off-take agreements\u00a0from energy-intensive customers and more competitive delivery models can all help improve project economics.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0private\u00a0investors\u00a0remain\u00a0focused on limiting exposure to cost overruns and schedule delays,\u00a0including key residual risks such as completion risks,\u00a0underlining the importance of clearer risk-sharing arrangements\u00a0and partnership models.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The conference highlighted that delivering new nuclear projects may depend not only on access to financial capital, but also on the availability of skilled human capital.\u00a0Labour organisations may be willing partners, but they need firm project commitments, binding\u00a0agreements\u00a0and trusted\u00a0developer\u2013engineering,\u00a0procurement\u00a0and construction (EPC) contractor relationships\u00a0before committing to recruitment and training pipelines. Workforce strategy should therefore be treated as an early condition\u00a0to build the investment case, not a late-stage execution workstream.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Discussions also addressed the\u00a0pathways for meeting new nuclear ambitions, including the development of advanced reactors and fusion.
