The Last Dinner Party<\/a> have shared an emotive new single called \u2018Second Best\u2019, and added more dates to their UK tour.<\/p>\n

The new track is the latest to be shared from the group\u2019s forthcoming sophomore album \u2018From The Pyre<\/a>\u2019, following on from the western-flecked lead single \u2018This Is The Killer Speaking<\/a>\u2019 and the slow-burning \u2018The Scythe<\/a>\u2019. \u2018From The Pyre\u2019 will be released on Friday October 17.<\/p>\n

Written by guitarist Emily Roberts, \u2018Second Best\u2019 centres around that feeling of being infatuated with someone that you know will ultimately betray you time and time again.<\/p>\n

It comes with subtle nods to Sparks<\/a>, along with buoyant keys from Aurora Nishevci and a hypnotic bassline from Georgia Davies.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish I could go back and say to myself that I am worth more than that, and that no one needs to accept being second best,\u201d Roberts said, looking at the inspiration for the song. \u201cI hope that the song captures the pain, anger and despair I felt but most importantly the defiance and satisfaction I now have in being able to immortalise this person in a song and to look back on the situation with more maturity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band have also added three new shows to their 2025 UK tour<\/a>. The original run of dates was shared last month, and includes stops in Dublin, Manchester, and more, as well as two back-to-back shows at London\u2019s O2 Academy Brixton. Now, new shows include a stop at the Barrowland in Glasgow on November 18, a show at the Octagon in Sheffield on November 21, and a gig at the UEA in Norwich on November 25.<\/p>\n

\u2018From The Pyre\u2019 is the follow-up to The Last Dinner Party\u2019s critically acclaimed 2023 debut album \u2018Prelude To Ecstasy<\/a>\u2019, which earned them a BRIT Award<\/a> and a Mercury Prize nod<\/a>, as well as praise from the likes of St. Vincent<\/a>, CMAT<\/a>, Brian May<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n

NME awarded that album four stars<\/a>, and shared that it saw the band capture \u201cenough self-belief and magnetism to set them apart from what\u2019s come before.\u201d<\/p>\n

The members went on to drop some hints to NME about the follow-up album<\/a> at the BRITS 2025<\/a> this year, where they took home the award for Best New Artist.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels really good to be creating again after touring again for so long,\u201d singer Abigail Morris told us. \u201cWe\u2019re approaching the second album the same way we approached the first album, which is by doing what we want to do without any pressures or expectations.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, there is a little bit of anxiety about the sophomore thing, but we\u2019re just sticking to what we want to do. It\u2019s about doing what feels right for now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Lizzie Mayland \u2013 now going by L.Mayland \u2013 spoke to NME about their solo EP \u2018The Slow Fire Of Sleep\u2019,<\/a> and revealed that fans can expect the new Last Dinner Party album to be inspired by \u201cdarker themes\u201d and \u201cprocessing heavier emotions\u201d.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a pretty dark time, so I think that is reflected in the music because we\u2019re in touch with the world,\u201d Mayland said. \u201cIt\u2019s not all sad, though; there are some bops as well! It\u2019s not all downbeat either \u2013 they\u2019re fun, angry songs.
