Animation.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with \u201cThe Invite\u201d hitting cinemas and the Annency Animation Festival underway, the pair have spoken some more about the film which sees the return of the iconic cat and mouse duo.<\/p>\n<p>The story reportedly sees Tom and Jerry being rescued by human do-gooders who eventually fall in love. The pets then launch campaigns to destroy each other and the romantic bond between their human owners.<\/p>\n<p>McCormack, who won a Best Short Film Oscar in 2021, tells <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/news\/the-invite-movie-rashida-jones-will-mccormack-screenwriters-1236787569\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Variety<\/a> that it\u2019s essentially a relationship comedy: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTom and Jerry do whatever they can to kill the other or to break up [their owners]. It\u2019s a rom-com in the style of \u2018La La Land\u2019. Why are these characters fighting so much? Because they want to be seen, and they want to be loved.
