Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton was a major factor in the early years of Prince William and Prince Harry\u2019s working royal lives, serving as private secretary to the brothers from 2005 to 2013.<\/p>\n

JLP, as the former aide is known, also helped Kate Middleton learn the royal ropes as she married into the family in 2011, and he is godfather to Prince George.<\/p>\n

In a new interview, Lowther-Pinkerton shared where he stands on \u201cthat Harry issue” amid the brothers’ long estrangement.<\/p>\n

Prince William<\/a> and Prince Harry<\/a>\u2019s former private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton\u2014who served in that role from 2005 to 2013 and is also godfather to Prince George<\/a>\u2014is weighing in on the ongoing rift between the brothers (well, kind of).<\/p>\n

In a new interview with The Times<\/a>, Lowther-Pinkerton sidestepped a question about William and Harry\u2019s feud, but did reveal where he stands on \u201cthat Harry issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

In rare comments about the matter\u2014and after being asked whether he thought reconciliation is possible between the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex\u2014the former aide answered diplomatically. \u201cDo you know what?\u201d he said. \u201cI think I\u2019d better steer clear of that Harry issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

He did express personal affection for Harry, adding, \u201cWhat I would say is that I was and am very fond of him. He has huge redeeming features, and I\u2019m a perennial optimist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of William and Harry, Lowther-Pinkerton said, \u201cI loved them both,\u201d adding that both men are \u201cBrave guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they were soldiers, it was important that they did it right and properly,\u201d he continued. \u201cThat\u2019s how I saw that 10 years I had [with them], primarily to get it right so they could say, as my Anglo-Irish father used to say, \u2018I\u2019ve known the days. I\u2019ve done it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry referred to \u201cJLP\u201d as \u201cdeeply calm, slightly stiff,\u201d and \u201ca force, the product of Britain\u2019s finest military training, which meant, among other things, that he didn\u2019t deal in bullshit. He didn\u2019t give it, didn\u2019t take it, and everyone, far and wide, seemed to know.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his interview with The Times, Lowther-Pinkerton called Princess Diana<\/a> \u201csuch a breath of fresh air\u201d and \u201ca sort of really buzzy live wire.\u201d Of Kate Middleton<\/a>\u2014who he helped show the ropes when she married into the royal family in 2011\u2014he added, \u201cShe\u2019s a really cool woman. Amazing. [William] chose well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they\u2019re great,\u201d he said of the Prince and Princess of Wales.<\/p>\n

He ran into the future queen (almost literally) at a royal engagement in Suffolk in 2025, and she went to greet him with a polite kiss. \u201cI was so embarrassed, I nearly headbutted her,\u201d Lowther-Pinkerton said. \u201cI didn\u2019t know if I should be bowing. It was so sweet of her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of George, who will turn 13 this summer and begin school at Eton College in the fall, he added, \u201cI\u2019m going to be a better godfather. It sounds awful. But I\u2019m a better godfather when it comes time to have a bit of fun. I\u2019ve got other godchildren and I have huge fun with them when they reach a certain point, so hopefully that\u2019ll be the time when JLP comes out of the chrysalis.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lowther-Pinkerton\u2019s interview comes ahead of Harry\u2019s planned trip to the U.K. in July; he is expected to bring along his wife, Meghan Markle<\/a>, and their children, Prince Archie<\/a>, 7, and Princess Lilibet<\/a>, 5, for the first time since 2022. Harry will be back in his home country for the one year to go events ahead of the Invictus Games\u2019s next iteration in Birmingham, England, slated for 2027.<\/p>\n

As for William and Harry reuniting during this upcoming trip, Hello!\u2019s royal editor Emily Nash told Page Six<\/a>\u2014perhaps not surprisingly\u2014\u201cI certainly wouldn\u2019t expect anything to happen on this visit. I mean, you never know.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it was part of a wider family gathering, it\u2019s possible they could be at the same place at the same time,\u201d she added. \u201cBut, you know, given the very fractious nature of the relationship between William and Harry, I don\u2019t see them rushing to spend time together just because Harry\u2019s back in the U.K.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThese things have to happen step by step,\u201d Nash continued. \u201cWhen things have been as difficult and as estranged as they have been in that family, I wouldn\u2019t expect things to change overnight.\u201d<\/p>\n
