{"id":510343,"date":"2026-06-25T11:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T11:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/510343\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T11:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T11:48:08","slug":"survey-shows-that-south-africans-planning-retirement-too-late","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/510343\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey shows that South Africans planning retirement too late"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JOHANNESBURG &#8211; The latest Sanlam Benchmark Survey shows that South Africans are planning their retirement too late.<\/p>\n<p>While many believe they should start planning for retirement in their mid-thirties, most only begin engaging with their retirement fund about 3 years before they stop working.<\/p>\n<p>The survey also found that only 40 percent retire at the prescribed retirement age while nearly half worry they will not have enough money to maintain a comfortable lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Only 57 percent of respondents said they received professional financial advice before retiring.<\/p>\n<p>Many retirees are still paying off debt and have had to cut spending on groceries, home maintenance and medical aid.<\/p>\n<p>Sanlam says starting earlier and getting financial advice can improve retirement outcomes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"JOHANNESBURG &#8211; The latest Sanlam Benchmark Survey shows that South Africans are planning their retirement too late.
