As its name suggests, the &#8220;Ten Owl of Ten&#8221; mission will launch Synspective&#8217;s 10th synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite, which will expand the company&#8217;s network above Japan to provide imaging data for use in city planning, monitoring infrastructure and responding to natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>You can watch it here at Space.com, courtesy of Rocket Lab, as well as on the company&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/rocketlabcorp.com\/missions\/launches\/tenowloften\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/rocketlabcorp.com\/missions\/launches\/tenowloften\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">website<\/a>. (Image credit: Rocket Lab)<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-c0f4d354-48e2-4146-8ef9-c2bb626897f5\">The launch will be Rocket Lab&#8217;s 12th so far in 2026, and the ninth for Electron this year (the other flights were performed by the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/rocket-lab-haste-hypersonic-launch-dart-ae-scramjet-us-military\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/rocket-lab-haste-hypersonic-launch-dart-ae-scramjet-us-military\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/launches-spacecraft\/rocket-lab-haste-hypersonic-launch-dart-ae-scramjet-us-military\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HASTE rocket<\/a>, a suborbital variant of Electron). Electron, Rocket Lab&#8217;s workhorse small-lift launch vehicle, stands 59 feet (18 meters) tall and can launch payloads weighing up to 661 pounds (300 kilograms) to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/low-earth-orbit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">low Earth orbit<\/a> (LEO).<\/p>\n<p>Synspective has booked Electron to launch the entirety of its Strix constellation, with 17 more on the rocket&#8217;s manifest expected to launch before 2030. The satellites are named after a genus of owls, drawing inspiration from the birds&#8217; visual acuity. Each satellite has an on-orbit lifespan of about five years, according to Synspective&#8217;s <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/synspective.com\/satellite\/satellite-strix\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/synspective.com\/satellite\/satellite-strix\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">website<\/a>. The spacecraft cruise in LEO between 15 and45 degrees of inclination.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-df06d152-1a47-47f9-9937-acb309272a0b-1\">Electron will deliver the &#8220;Ten Owls of Ten&#8221; Strix to an inclination of 42 degrees, at a LEO altitude of 343 miles (552 kilometers).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/media\/img\/spc-logo-w.svg\" alt=\"Space\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"w-auto h-7 block w-auto mx-auto mb-4 h-[30px]\" data-component-name=\"Image\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Electron&#8217;s second stage will separate about 2 minutes, 40 seconds after liftoff today, with the third or &#8220;kick&#8221; stage taking over about nine minutes into flight.
